Public Health Opens Community Healing and Trauma Prevention Center in South Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES – On Wednesday, September 5, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas along with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and community partners will unveil the Community Healing and Trauma Prevention Center (The Center) at the Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Public Health in Willowbrook. The Center provides a safe community space to support community dialogue, mobilization of community resources and leaders, and community-based work aimed at improving the social determinants of health and the root causes of complex trauma in South Los Angeles.

The Center will serve a community that experiences the highest rates of assault-related trauma and homicide in Los Angeles County. South Los Angeles homicide rates are nearly four times higher than the rest of the county.
