City Manager's Message
July is a month full of celebration here in Jurupa Valley! As we gather with family and friends to mark our Nation’s Independence, we also take pride in celebrating the City’s 14th Anniversary since incorporation. It’s a time to reflect on how far we’ve come and look ahead to an even brighter future.
Join us on Thursday, July 3 at Vernola Park for the Jurupa Area Recreation and Park District’s Independence Celebration. Be sure to stop by the City booth—tell us you're an eNewsletter subscriber and receive a free goodie item as a thank-you for staying connected.
And that’s not the only way to celebrate! If you visit City Hall anytime during the month of July, let the front lobby staff know you’ve read the eNewsletter, and you’ll receive a special gift from the City to take home.
This month also highlights Jurupa Valley’s continued growth, with new housing opportunities and the exciting addition of new businesses—including a Target opening later this summer and we’ve officially broken ground on the first of two Vallarta Supermarkets. These milestones are a sign of progress and a growing sense of community pride.
It’s a great time to live in Jurupa Valley, and I couldn’t be prouder to serve as your City Manager alongside our committed City Councilmembers. Thank you for being part of our City’s journey.
Wishing you a safe and joyful July,
City Manager, Jurupa Valley

Jurupa Valley Celebrated at Quakes Game
It was a grand slam evening for the City as residents, staff, and local leaders came together to celebrate summer at the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes game on June 4. Mayor Brian Berkson had the honor of throwing out the ceremonial first pitch, while Deputy City Manager Amy Sells delivered a beautiful rendition of the National Anthem. Staff and residents alike enjoyed a fun-filled evening, cheering on the Quakes—an affiliate of the LA Dodgers—and celebrating the start of summer together.

City Breaks Ground on First Vallarta Supermarket in Jurupa Valley
On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the City celebrated the groundbreaking of its very first Vallarta Supermarket, which will serve as the anchor tenant of the new Van Buren Marketplace Shopping Center, located at 4751 Van Buren Boulevard, at the corner of Van Buren Boulevard and Rutile Street.
City officials were joined by several Vallarta Supermarket executives and the project developer to mark this major milestone for the community. The development spans approximately 117,300 square feet and will bring new shopping and dining opportunities to residents across Jurupa Valley, including the neighborhoods of Mira Loma, Pedley, Glen Avon, and Rubidoux.
Strategically located along Van Buren Boulevard, a major thoroughfare with direct access to the 60 Freeway, the center is expected to generate significant traffic and economic activity.
The addition of Vallarta underscores the City’s continued growth and commitment to enhancing access to quality retail for local families.
