Welcome
Welcome to the September Edition of Jurupa Valley's Economic Development Monthly Report.
For over 50 years, Hispanic Heritage Month has been celebrated in the U.S. to celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of Americans whose ancestors came from the Caribbean, Mexico, Spain and Central and South America. The City of Jurupa Valley, along with the U.S. Small Business Administration, recognizes the vital impact Hispanic-owned businesses have influenced and contributed to the U.S. economy.
Below are facts from the U.S. Congressional Joint Economic Committee:
- Nearly 1 in 4 new businesses is Hispanic-owned
- Hispanic-owned businesses contribute more than $800 billion to the U.S. economy
- Hispanic businesses employ 1 million workers and operate more than $100 billion in annual payroll
Despite these achievements, Hispanic-owned businesses are also more likely to to experience financial hardship and were disproportionately impacted by the coronavirus pandemic. As a result, the U.S. Small Business Administration have tailored their resources for Hispanic & Latino businesses by offering financial resources, business assistance and trainings.

Mayor's Business Visitation Program - Graziano's Pizza
Graziano's Pizza, a beloved local institution, is celebrating its 45th anniversary this year. Founded in 1979 by Iranian immigrant John Babai, the restaurant has become a cornerstone of the Jurupa Valley community. John, who fled Iran before the Islamic Revolution, sought a new life free from religious persecution. With his wife, Aghdas, he opened Graziano's, putting in long hours to build a successful business. Their dedication and commitment to serving the community have been evident for decades.
Graziano's is known for its authentic Italian cuisine, made from scratch using traditional recipes. From their hand-crafted lasagna and fresh meat sauce to their giant 28-inch Party Pizza, every dish is a testament to John's passion for excellent food. Over the years, Graziano's has weathered multiple recessions, barely scraping by at times. However, John's perseverance and the community's support have helped the restaurant endure.
Graziano's has become a gathering place for families and friends. Many customers have fond memories of dining there as children now bring their own families to the restaurant. John takes pride that his pizza parlor has served multiple generations of Jurupa Valley residents. As Graziano's approaches its 50th anniversary, John remains committed to serving the community he loves. His vision of creating a wholesome family environment has been realized, and he looks forward to many more years of providing delicious food and warm hospitality.
