Safely Dispose of Your Prescriptions
The Irvine Police Department (IPD) will be participating in the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day Saturday, October 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. This free service, which allows the public to anonymously discard prescription medications, addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.
The collection sites are located at:
Irvine Police Department 1 Civic Center Plaza, Irvine
Hoag Health Center 16105 Sand Canyon Ave., Irvine
IPD urges residents to bring expired or unneeded prescription drugs to the collection sites to eliminate the potential for misuse, abuse, or accidental poisoning. Improper disposal of unused or expired medications, such as flushing them down a toilet or throwing them in the trash, can be hazardous to public safety, public health, and the environment.

This Week in DE&I
There are many cultural and religious holidays celebrated and recognized throughout our community this month. Learn about some of the significant dates being observed in Irvine below and on our DE&I calendar.
Filipino-American Heritage Month Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California, after Latinos and African Americans. The celebration of Filipino American History Month in October commemorates the first recorded presence of Filipinos in the continental United States, which occurred on October 18, 1587, when “Luzones Indios” came ashore from the Spanish galleon Nuestra Senora de Esperanza and landed at what is now Morro Bay, California. In 2009, U.S. Congress recognized October as Filipino American History Month in the United States. Various states, counties, and cities in the U.S. have established proclamations and resolutions declaring observance of Filipino American History Month.
