Thanks to our many community partners, government agencies and others, disaster survivors are accessing 12 months of mortgage assistance from the CalAssist Mortgage Fund, a state program providing much-needed relief from mortgage payments for families whose homes are destroyed or severely damaged as the result of a California disaster.
To date, the program has approved $33 million in funding for over 900 homeowners.
Assistance is still available.
As groups continue to aid disaster survivors with a range of needs, the CalAssist Mortgage Fund aims to connect individuals with other resources that can help them on the road to recovery. Below are a few examples of services that are available:
California Department of Housing and Community Development
Issued a notice prioritizing eligible displaced households on waiting lists for HCD-assisted multifamily rental housing projects in Los Angeles County.
USDA
Launched the California Single-Family Housing Disaster Assistance Fund to provide grants to very-low and low-income homeowners to repair owner-occupied homes damaged by the Eaton Fire in Los Angeles County.
Listos California
Has a disaster preparedness resource hub and sign up for their alerts to receive important updates on California disasters and available resources.
Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County (NHSLA)
Offers housing counseling services and application assistance for homeowners applying to the CalAssist Mortgage Fund.
Department of Angels
Provides Los Angeles area maps to find a neighborhood survivor network to connect with other survivors and disaster recovery resources.
Eaton Fire Collaborative
Runs the long-term recovery group for Eaton Fire survivors and is hosting the Altadena Rebuild Tradeshow on Sunday, April 19 in collaboration with other state and local partners to connect homeowners with resources to help them navigate recovering from the wildfires.
Palisades Long Term Recovery Group
Has a brand new Pali Hub, which is a resource center where community members can access disaster case management services and rebuilding resources.
Catholic Charities of California
Connects survivors across the state with disaster case managers, someone who can help them access a broad range of programs, services, and resources to address disaster-related needs.
CalAssist funding is limited, so we encourage homeowners to apply for free to receive mortgage relief grants paid directly to their mortgage servicers that never have to be paid back. Have questions?
