Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for December 2024
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
Welcome to our final newsletter of the year! As we look at the months that have passed, we celebrate the ways that we have been able to connect with our community through shared interests such as poetry and Star Wars, to promote adventures in literacy through our Summer Reading Program and ever-growing collections, and to engage with patrons and volunteers through programs at Homework Help and Senior Happy Hour. Serving every member of our community is a joy. We are looking forward to opportunities to continue doing so in the year ahead, as we head into facility renovations on our main library at 500 N. Fairview, establish offsite services at a temporary location during construction, and develop creative ways to continue bringing library joy to all our patrons.
At the November 19th City Council meeting, the City of Goleta project team received direction to pursue a lease at 6500 Hollister as the temporary home for Goleta Valley Library during facility renovations. We will be sure to share updates on all things related to this project, as well as the ongoing construction at the new Buellton Library facility, as more information becomes available. Before the year is over, be sure to stop by your local branch to attend a winter-themed program, find the Elf on the Shelf, and pick up some cool reads.
Finally, our team extends a heartfelt thank you to our community for your patronage of our libraries and for the opportunity to serve you. We look forward to all that the new year will bring!

Tuesday, December 17 – Sunday, January 26
Community members of all ages are invited to participate in the library’s 13th annual Winter Reading Program! The 2024-2025 theme is “Reading is Cool!” and encourages our local patrons to find some cool books in the library’s vast collection of print and digital materials this winter. Participants will complete one entry slip per book read. Prize drawings will take place weekly for the age-group categories of Children, Teens, and Adults. The more you read, the better your chances will be of winning! Visit your local branch at Goleta Valley Library, Solvang Library, or the Bookvan to get started.
