Welcome to the Library Reading Corner for May 2024
A Note from City Librarian Elizabeth Saucedo:
Welcome to our May newsletter, library patrons!
During both my childhood and my time as a Children’s Librarian, summertime has always seemed delightfully close from this side of spring break. Sneak peeks of our annual all-ages Summer Reading Program are beginning to pop up around our branches, as the theme – Adventure Begins at Your Library! – calls to mind images of thrilling stories springing to life from the pages of books and taking us to faraway places, all from the comfort of our favorite reading chair. With new titles appearing on the shelves at our libraries each week and many more on the way, it’s a great time to pick up a new read while you’re dropping off your Teen Volunteer Application or heading to Senior Happy Hour to make beautiful marbled paper for Mother’s Day cards. For those eager to explore the outdoors, our Library of Things collection will soon contain exciting new offerings, including passes to the Santa Barbara Botanical Gardens and Old Mission Santa Barbara in addition to the ever-popular State Parks Passes and Backpacks.
You can even check out Wi-Fi hotspots to help you stay connected on camping trips and beach days, and enjoy listening to everything from cozy mystery audiobooks to Taylor Swift’s new album as you travel to your destination.
Wherever the springtime takes you, you’ll want to be sure to include a visit to your local library on the list.
-Elizabeth Saucedo, City Librarian
