Hello and happy springtime, library patrons!
April is the perfect time to learn a new skill or find your next hobby, and the library is here to help. Browse our shelves to find colorful books about gardening, borrow an audiobook to practice a new language, or try out a tasty recipe from our cookbook section. Your library card even includes free access to online tools like LinkedIn Learning and LearningExpress Library to help you achieve your academic and career goals at every stage.
In this newsletter, we’ve highlighted upcoming seasonal programming that provides enrichment and entertainment alike – you’re invited to join us for crafts, poetry, storytimes and more that bring us together and celebrate a community in bloom.

First Sunday of Every Month
Ice in Paradise has generously donated free skating admission on the first Sunday of every month in 2024 to patrons of the Goleta & Santa Ynez Valley Libraries!
Present your Goleta Valley Library or Santa Ynez Valley Libraries card at Ice in Paradise to receive free skating admission on the dates below. Skate rentals are not included. One library card per skater is required. Skaters must be ages 3+.
Remaining Free Admission Dates in 2024:

- May 5th
- June 2nd
- July 7th
- August 4th
- September 1st
- October 6th
- November 3rd
- December 1st
Session times:
1:30 - 3:30 p.m. and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m.

Goleta Valley Library

At this month’s Senior Happy Hour, we’ll be making macramé key chains. Learn a basic knot or get fancy - it's up to you! Have fun and socialize at the Goleta Valley Library.
All supplies are provided.

Children of all ages are invited to this special guest storytime with Shterna Kudan, Youth Director at Chabad of S. Barbara! Shterna will share stories and songs about celebrating the Jewish holiday of Passover.

Saturday, April 27, 2:00pm - 3:00pm
Readers of poetry are cordially invited to submit their favorite published poem to read during our Afternoon Poetry Reading in the library’s Community Room. To participate, email us by Saturday, April 20 at goletavalleylibrary@cityofgoleta.org and include your name, age category (Adult or Teen), and the work of a favorite published poem that you would like to read.
All genres and styles are welcome. Poems will be selected in the order in which submissions are received. Please be mindful of poem length, as we would like to have as many readers as possible! This event will celebrate the diversity of poetry and honor April as National Poetry Month.

Wiggly Storytime
Every Monday, 10:30am
Come sing, read and play with wiggly storytime! Join us in the children's library every Monday morning and meet a new friend while we play with puppets, bubbles and wiggle around the room!

Join the conversation as we will be reading The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides. A psychological thriller of a therapist who becomes consumed by getting to the bottom of why a woman killed her husband.

Solvang Library Craft Kit
All April
This month we are making Agamographs (say it three times fast!). Agamographs are a fun and interactive art form that uses optical illusions to change the images seen in an artwork, depending on the angle of the viewer.
Free for all ages, pick one up in the library hallway!
Saturday, April 27, 3:30pm - 4:30pm
A book discussion group for readers who like to explore a wide variety of books, from prize-winning fiction in various genres, to newer non-fiction. The April title is the 2023 International Booker Prize winner: Time Shelter, by Georgi Gospodinov. "An award-winning international sensation-with a second-act dystopian twist-Time Shelter is a tour de force set in a world clamoring for the past before it forgets." -publisher.
Copies are available at Solvang Library, and the eAudiobook is instantly available for download from the library catalog.

Spring Book Sale
Saturday April 27 through Saturday May 4
The book sale will be in the library hallway during open hours throughout the week, and will close at 3 pm on May 4th. This sale features an amazing array of cookbooks, garden and floral design books, and puzzles for sale, as well as fiction and non-fiction, some collectibles, music CD's and DVD's for all ages.
