City of Goleta Encourages Residents to Continue to Stay at Home over the Holiday Weekend
Around the world Spring holidays including Passover, Easter and Ramadan are being observed this month. You are encouraged to find new ways to mark the special days while loving your neighbors and keeping them safe through social distancing.
The City of Goleta is reminding the community to continue following the City and State’s Stay at Home order this weekend with the upcoming Easter holiday. To prevent the spread of COVID 19 and ensure social distancing requirements at public parks and open spaces the following areas remain closed:
- Playground equipment
- Skatepark at Jonny D. Wallis Neighborhood Park
- Fitness equipment
- Basketball, pickleball, tennis and volleyball courts
- Group picnic areas
Mayor Paula Perotte said, “We know that with the Easter holiday this Sunday, people may be tempted to let down their guard and get together in person with friends and extended family. I implore everyone to continue staying at home and keep social distancing. Thankfully, many of us are getting better at learning how to Zoom and use other avenues for connecting.”
Easter 2020 will be different than in prior years, but here are some ideas to make it special:
- Have a virtual celebration with your friends and family
- Attend a church service online
- Have an Easter Egg Hunt in your home or backyard
- Order food from a local restaurant offering take-out or delivery
- Do something kind for someone else
- Participate in the City’s new #GoodLandGoodPeople Story Challenge – send us a photo of your family celebrating Easter this year along with a description and you could be featured on our social media channels. E-mail image to pio@cityofgoleta.org
To help enforce the City’s outdoor restrictions, fencing has been installed around the skatepark located at Jonny D. Wallis Neighborhood Park and nets were removed from all basketball, pickleball and volleyball courts throughout the City. Tennis courts are locked and off limits. Fencing was also installed at group picnic areas. Signage indicating the closures are posted at all impacted sites. There will be increased visibility of Goleta Police around the closure areas.
The Stay at Home Order for California issued by Governor Newsom on March 19, 2020, urges people to stay home as much as possible. People can go out for essential needs such as food, healthcare needs, caring for a relative or friend, and to get fresh air by going for a walk, run, or bike ride alone or with those you live with. If you do go out, remember to stay six feet away from anyone you do not live with, and to wear a cloth face covering if you will be in a setting where social distancing is hard to maintain.
