Goleta Valley Library's Reading Corner - May 2019

Did you know that the Goleta Valley Library website has information on services in the community for local immigrants? Our “Online Research” section has a “Citizenship & Immigration Services” page with links and short descriptions to local resources. One of the best resources is USA Learns, where patrons can have access to English classes and citizenship classes in order to prepare for their naturalization interviews.

Zip Books

The Goleta Valley Library received a grant from the California State Library that lets us purchase books (including large print books and books on CD), published more than two years ago and requested on our website under “Suggest a Purchase.” If the item costs less than $55 and is sold by Amazon, we will order it and have it shipped directly to the person that requested it. Patrons can then keep the book as long as needed and return it to the library when finished.

Calling All Teen Volunteers!

The Goleta Valley Library is looking for teens (ages 14-17) who are interested in helping during our Summer Reading Program. Teens must attend one orientation, either Wednesday, May 29^th, from 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. or Saturday, June 1^st, from 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. Library staff will provide information on the rules and responsibilities of being a volunteer, answer any questions that come up and teach teens everything they need to know to become volunteers at the library. Interested teens can pick up an application in advance at the front desk of the library or during orientation. Teens should be ready to let staff know their availability over summer in order to be added to the schedule. Community service credit can be earned for volunteer time.

Science Fridays

On most Friday afternoons, the Library explores science concepts from 3D printing to Snap Circuits to building with LEGOs and much, much more. This program is best for children ages 8-12 years old. Check the Library’s event calendar to see each Friday activity and to secure a spot.

Free Films at the Library!

Come watch a movie at the Goleta Valley Library on early release Thursdays! Movies will be shown in the Library’s multipurpose room beginning at 2:30 p.m. Please see the schedule below:
