The City is aware
that there have been some challenges with the traffic control configuration for the Hollister Class I Bike Path Project. The City and contractor are working
together to make changes this week and into early next week to lessen
the confusion for drivers, alleviate some of the traffic congestion that the
new configuration caused and increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and
vehicles. Steps being taken include:
Blacking out striping in the westbound direction
and replacing it with new temporary striping. This will result in lanes shifting
over to the north and the westbound side opening back up to two lanes. The
change in striping will also help relieve some of the congestion issues that
have come about as cars turn left onto Entrance Road from Hollister Avenue.
The double yellow striping on the west end of
the project will be blacked out and re-painted to better delineate and align
the left turn pockets and to make sure these turn pockets are a minimum of 10
feet wide. Temporary striping will also
be used to delineate the left turn pockets in addition to the white delineators
that are currently in place.
To make it easier for cars to know where to go
when turning right onto Hollister Avenue in the eastbound direction from side streets, temporary white stripes will be
placed on the right side of the travel path to direct traffic to the eastbound
lane.
In order to prevent drivers from becoming
confused and turning into the pedestrian/bicycle pathway behind the k-rail (temporary
concrete barrier), delineators will be placed to better define the temporary
pedestrian/bicycle path. In addition, type II barricades (orange and white stripe
folding barricades) will be placed at the temporary pedestrian/bicycle pathway to
narrow it at the side street crossings.
