Parking restrictions at the Golden Gate Bridge during Super Bowl

The Golden Gate Bridge, Highway and Transportation District welcomes the expected one million visitors to the Bay Area for Super Bowl 50 – and we’re implementing major transportation changes to make travel smoother for everyone.

Those coming to the Golden Gate Bridge during peak visitation hours can enjoy the view from the Visitor Center and the Vista Point overlooks by taking a tour bus, corporate shuttle, taxi, or ridesharing service such as Lyft or Uber. In order to keep traffic moving smoothly on the Hwy 101 corridor and avoid queuing for the very limited number of parking spaces available, no personal vehicles will be allowed to park at the Visitor Center or Vista Point lots between 11:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. from Friday, January 29th through Sunday, February 7th. The same congestion on the Bridge occurs seasonally during high traffic times such as major holidays, and the District will be studying this approach for long term solutions.

Tour buses will be allowed to park in these areas. Taxis and rideshare services will be allowed to pick up and drop off passengers at the Welcome Center lot at the south end of the Bridge only. No taxi staging or waiting will be allowed. Ridesharing vehicles will need proper identification, such as a decal.

Electronic signs will notify drivers of the lot closures in advance of the Bridge, and signs will also be placed on the Bridge itself leading up the Vista Point exit. Bicyclists are welcome.

This change from usual operations is the result of joint cooperation between Caltrans, California Highway Patrol, the National Park Service, and the Golden Gate Bridge District.
