A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian  This year marks two extraordinary milestones. As our nation prepares to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, the City of Glendale is also celebrating its 120th birthday. For more than a century, Glendale has grown into a community known for its safe neighborhoods, exceptional public services, beautiful parks, thriving businesses, and outstanding quality of life. As we approach Independence Day, I encourage everyone to celebrate responsibly. Please remember that fireworks are prohibited in Glendale. Leave fireworks displays to trained professionals to help protect our community and first responders. As we celebrate these milestones, we are also reminded that preserving the Glendale we enjoy today requires thoughtful planning and responsible investment for the future. That commitment is reflected in the work currently underway as the City Council concludes its Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget planning process. While balancing a budget is important, the larger goal is ensuring Glendale remains well-positioned to provide quality services, maintain critical infrastructure, and continue investing in the community assets that residents rely on every day. During these sessions, the City Council has reviewed department budgets, proposed service level modifications, fee schedules, and the city’s infrastructure needs via its Capital Improvement Program. Key discussions have focused on projects that will shape Glendale’s future, including a new park at 1000 S. Central Avenue, continued beautification along San Fernando Road, and investments in critical infrastructure such as the Grayson Power Plant. These initiatives reflect our long-term commitment to the community, and the quality-of-life residents expect. These discussions are not always easy, but they are necessary. Responsible financial stewardship requires thoughtful planning, careful prioritization, and a willingness to make decisions that balance today's needs with tomorrow's opportunities. The Fiscal Year 2026-27 budget is scheduled for adoption on June 23. As we celebrate Glendale's 120th birthday and our nation's 250th anniversary, I encourage residents to reflect on how far we have come and to stay engaged as we continue building the next chapter of Glendale's story together.

La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project Nearing Completion

The La Crescenta Avenue Rehabilitation Project continues to move forward, with crews installing the corridor’s new roadway configuration, including one travel lane in each direction, a center two-way left-turn lane, and new bike lanes.

Construction activities in June will focus on final roadway striping and the installation of decorative crosswalks at key intersections, including Shirleyjean Street, Roselawn Avenue, Oakmont View Drive, and Piedmont Avenue. Work will continue under rolling traffic control to help maintain traffic flow and minimize disruptions for residents, businesses, and visitors.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in June 2026. Drivers are encouraged to follow posted signage and use caution when traveling through active work zones. All work schedules are subject to change due to weather or unforeseen conditions.

Help Shape Glendale's Local Hazard Mitigation Plan

The City of Glendale is inviting residents to review and comment on the Draft Local Hazard Mitigation Plan (LHMP), which helps guide the City's efforts to prepare for and reduce risks from hazards such as wildfires, earthquakes, flooding, extreme heat, utility disruptions, and other emergencies.

Community input is an important part of the planning process and helps ensure the plan reflects local priorities and concerns.

Kick Off Summer of Soccer in Glendale

The world's biggest soccer celebration is coming to Glendale, and you won't want to miss a minute of it! From June 12 through July 19, the City of Glendale is kicking off Summer of Soccer, featuring watch parties, special offers, and soccer-themed experiences throughout the city. Download the Visit Glendale app to discover participating businesses, unlock exclusive deals, find places to watch every match, and plan your Summer of Soccer adventure.

Glendale businesses are also encouraged to join the excitement. Restaurants, retailers, hotels, and entertainment venues can showcase their Summer of Soccer promotions and events by submitting them for inclusion.

Go Metro & Glendale Bee Line

Skip the traffic and the parking hassle — this event is accessible and easy to reach using public transportation (do not modify this part). Attendees can take Metro Bus Lines 92 and 180 to Downtown Glendale or connect via Glendale Bee Line Routes 1 and 4, with convenient stops located within walking distance of Artsakh Paseo. The event site, surrounding sidewalks, and pedestrian crossings are accessible for attendees using wheelchairs and other mobility devices. Metro rail stations, trains, and buses, as well as Glendale Bee Line buses, are ADA-accessible.

Montrose Celebrates Summer of Soccer

Montrose is joining the excitement of Summer of Soccer with a lineup of special events, activities, and promotions taking place throughout the shopping district from June 6 through July 19.

Visitors can participate in the Montrose Soccer Search, enjoy family-friendly activities at the Montrose Harvest Market, attend the annual Arts & Crafts Festival and Montrose Car Show, and explore more than 180 locally owned shops, restaurants, and businesses. Many merchants will also offer soccer-themed specials and watch parties throughout the summer.

Summer Reading Challenge Returns to Libraries

Library, Arts & Culture invites readers of all ages to participate in the annual Summer Reading Challenge. Pick up a game card at any Glendale library branch or download one at GLAC.info/SRC.

This year’s theme, “Plant a Seed, Read,” encourages participants to explore the outdoors, spark curiosity, and discover new ideas through reading and learning. The challenge is designed for all ages and abilities and includes opportunities to earn prizes along the way.

Participants who register at any Glendale Library branch will receive a free custom Glendale Library tote bag, with additional prizes available for every 15 days of completed reading and learning activities.

Stay Cool and Save Energy This Summer

Summer is here, and now is the perfect time to make your home more comfortable and energy efficient. Through Glendale Water & Power’s Home Energy and Water Upgrades Program, eligible residential customers can receive no-cost energy- and water-saving improvements designed to help reduce utility costs and keep homes cooler during the hottest months of the year.

In partnership with Synergy, GWP provides in-home assessments and installation of qualifying upgrades at no cost, including:

• Weatherization improvements
• Energy-efficient lighting
• Ceiling fans
• Occupancy sensors
• Water heater wraps

Income-qualified customers enrolled in the Glendale Care program may also be eligible for additional upgrades, including attic insulation and whole house fans.

Help Shape Glendale's Parks and Open Spaces

The Open Space and Conservation Resource (OSCR) Plan community survey is now available, and residents are encouraged to share their ideas and priorities for Glendale's parks, recreation facilities, and open spaces.

The survey will remain open through July 31, 2026. Participants who provide an email address at the end of the survey will be entered into a raffle to win a $20 gift card.

Glendale Sports Complex Solar Project Continues

Construction at the Sports Complex parking lot is expected to be completed by mid-July 2026.

During construction, parking availability will be reduced, and portions of the lot may be temporarily closed. Visitors are encouraged to allow extra time when arriving for games, practices, and other activities.

Overflow parking is available, with signage directing visitors to additional spaces. Shuttle service is provided on weekday evenings and throughout weekend operating hours. All pedestrian walkways and ADA-accessible routes will remain open.

Upgrade to Heat Pumps with Rebates

Residents can now take advantage of rebates to reduce the cost of upgrading to electric heat pump technology. By combining incentives from Glendale Water & Power (GWP) and the South Coast Air Quality Management District (AQMD), eligible customers may qualify for up to $8,000 in combined rebates on qualifying ENERGY STAR® certified heat pump systems.

GWP Rebates Available:

• $500 per ton (up to $2,500) when replacing an existing heat pump with a new ENERGY STAR® heat pump or mini-split system
• $1,000 per ton (up to $5,000) when replacing a gas furnace or gas/electric HVAC system with an all-electric ENERGY STAR® heat pump

Additional incentives may also be available from South Coast AQMD for eligible zero-emission space- and water-heating appliances.

Dive Into Summer at Pacific Community Pool

Pacific Community Pool is open year-round and offers a variety of programs for swimmers of all ages. Registration for summer group and private swim lessons is now available, and spaces fill quickly.

The pool is also home to the Glendale Gators swim team, Glendale Polo Bears water polo team, and the Junior Lifeguard Academy. Group and private rentals are available throughout the season.

Jefferson Tigers Capture One Glendale Soccer Championship

The One Glendale After School Youth Sports Program recently concluded its soccer season with an exciting championship night celebrating teamwork, growth, and sportsmanship.

The Jefferson Tigers B Team captured the championship with a 5–1 victory over the Cerritos Wildcats A Team, while the Muir Mustangs B Team secured third place with a 4–3 overtime win against the RD White Mustangs B Team in the consolation match.

Congratulations to all of the players, coaches, and families for a successful season and for helping make youth sports a positive experience for Glendale's young athletes.

Trail Safety Patrol Program

The City of Glendale is seeking volunteers to join its Trail Safety Patrol program. Volunteers help support park safety, protect natural resources, and assist visitors along Glendale's trail system.

The program includes both a Mountain Bike Unit and a Hike Unit. Volunteers must be at least 18 years old, complete required training, obtain First Aid/CPR certification, and commit a minimum of two hours per month.

Engineering Division Shares Overview with CCEA

The City of Glendale's Public Works Engineering Division recently presented an overview of its programs and services to the City and County Engineers Association of Los Angeles (CCEA).

The presentation highlighted the Division's work in planning, designing, and delivering public infrastructure projects throughout Glendale, including capital improvements, traffic engineering, land development, right-of-way permitting, and facilities improvements. It also showcased the scale of the City's infrastructure network and ongoing investment in maintaining and enhancing public assets.

Fire Service Day was a Success!

Thousands of residents and visitors attended the Glendale Fire Department's 2026 Fire Service Day at Fire Station 21. Guests enjoyed family-friendly activities, public safety demonstrations, station tours, and opportunities to meet Glendale firefighters, paramedics, and police personnel.

The annual event continues to strengthen connections between the community and its first responders while promoting public safety education and community engagement.

Babe Herman Restroom:
The renovation of the restroom building north of the Babe Herman Little League Field is now complete and open to the public.

Underwater Bottleneck by Elizabeth Criss and Sari Scheer transforms the Adams Square Gas Station into a deep-sea scene. Schools of fish made from discarded plastics and repurposed wine bottles float overhead, while jellyfish hover above a glowing mound of empty jugs—highlighting both the resilience and fragility of ocean life.

Glass-bottle fish filled with plastic debris illustrate the risks marine life faces when mistaking waste for food. This creative installation encourages visitors to reflect on everyday choices and consider solutions to reduce plastic pollution.

Glendale Refuse Container Guidelines for Single-Family and 2-4 Units

To help keep Glendale clean and ensure efficient collection service, residents are encouraged to follow these guidelines on their scheduled collection day:

• Place carts along the street curb in front of your property or along the alley in the rear, depending on your collection route.
• Keep containers at least three feet away from parked vehicles and positioned on either side of the driveway.
• Leave at least one foot of space between each cart.
• Position carts so the arrow on the lid faces the street.
• Do not place containers out before 3:00 PM on the day before collection.
• Return empty containers from the curb by 8:00 PM on collection day.

Following these simple steps helps maintain efficient collection service and keeps Glendale looking its best.

Wander the Wilderness Bus

Skip the drive and enjoy a stress-free trip to nature with the free Wander the Wilderness Bus. The weekend shuttle service provides convenient transportation to Deukmejian Wilderness Park, where visitors can enjoy hiking, birdwatching, picnicking, and the Stone Barn Nature Center.

This program is made possible through funding from Metro and helps connect the community to Glendale's outdoor spaces.

Glendale Outdoors! (GO!) Community Program

Free bus transportation is available from Pacific Park Community Center, with water and snacks provided. Participants are encouraged to ride the bus but may also meet at the park. RSVP by June 10 at 3:00 PM.

Wilderness Workday

Free Food Distribution for Qualifying Seniors

The LA Regional Food Bank will distribute nutritious food to eligible adults age 60 and older at the Adult Recreation Center. This program helps support older adults in our community by providing access to essential groceries.

How to Properly Dispose of Hazardous Waste

Glendale offers a safe and convenient way to dispose of household hazardous waste through the City’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program.

Drop-off is available at the Environmental Management Center, 780 Flower St., every Wednesday and the second Saturday of each month from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM (exceptions may apply).

Accepted Items:

• Household lights and batteries (no leaks)
• Mercury-containing devices
• Household chemicals (kitchen, bathroom, pool, and garage)
• Pest control, lawn, and garden products
• Automotive and home improvement materials
• Medications and needles

Guidelines:

• Maximum of 15 gallons of liquids or 125 pounds of solids
• Bring items in original, labeled containers when possible
• Containers will not be returned (except oil containers)
• Keep items in your trunk or back seat
• Remain in your vehicle during drop-off

Make a Splash This Summer

Glendale's wading pools are a great way for young children to cool off during the summer months. Designed for children ages 8 and under, the City's four wading pools are open for free drop-in use on a rotating schedule from June 15 through August 16.

Planning a birthday party or small gathering? Wading pools are also available for private rentals through September, subject to staff and facility availability. Rental rates start at $118 for the first hour of swimming, with additional hours available for $29 each. Designated tables near the pool can also be reserved for $51.

Using Recycle Coach to Recycle Right

Not sure how to recycle an item? Integrated Waste Management's partnership with Recycle Coach makes it easy to find the answer.

Available through the Recycle Coach mobile app and at GlendaleRecycles.com, the tool helps residents determine how to properly recycle household items and provides collection schedule information for single-family and small multi-family properties. Mobile app users can even snap a photo of an item to receive instant recycling guidance.
