“Be the Light” Exhibit Shines in Adams Hill
Adams Square Mini Park's Historic Gas Station 1020 E. Palmer Avenue, Glendale, CA 91205 Now through January 9, 2026
A new burst of holiday spirit is illuminating Adams Hill this season with the unveiling of “Be the Light,” a community-crafted installation now on display at the historic Richfield Gas Station in Adams Square Mini Park. The exhibit is sponsored by the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association, in coordination with the Community Services & Parks Department. Installed before Thanksgiving and remaining through January 9, the vibrant exhibit serves as a seasonal reminder that darkness cannot drive out darkness—only light can.
What makes “Be the Light” especially meaningful is the way it came to life. The installation was created during Make Art in the Mini Park, Adams Hill’s annual community art-making event held this year on November 22. Residents of all ages—from toddlers to seniors—gathered in the Adams Square Mini Park to design and assemble the elements of the display. Guided by local artist Cathy Hrenda, who provided all materials and gentle instruction, neighbors worked side by side to craft something beautiful, no previous art experience required.
The result is a joyful, collaborative holiday piece that reflects the neighborhood’s creativity, warmth, and unity. “Be the Light” stands not only as a festive display but as a powerful reminder of the brightness a community can create together.
