We invite you to celebrate the exciting conclusion of the One Glendale After School Youth Sports Program’s Flag Football Season at our Championship Evening!
Join hundreds of spectators for an evening of fun and community spirit as youth athletes from local elementary schools compete in both the consolation and championship games. Cheer on these incredible 4th and 5th grade students as they showcase their skills and teamwork!
About One Glendale
The One Glendale After School Youth Sports Program is a partnership between the City of Glendale’s Community Services & Parks Department and the Glendale Unified School District. It’s proudly sponsored by USC Verdugo Hills Hospital and the Glendale Parks & Open Space Foundation, with additional support from Glendale Community College, Glendale Fire Department, Glendale Police Department, and the Los Angeles Rams.
The program brings free, organized sports to eight South Glendale elementary schools, with four seasons throughout the year: flag football, volleyball, basketball, and soccer.
Each season lasts eight weeks and ends with a championship game — and this one’s not to be missed!

Council Approves Custom Playgrounds at Adams Square Mini & Mayors Bicentennial Parks!
On August 26, 2025, Glendale City Council approved two exciting new playground designs: the “Custom Truck” for Adams Square Mini Park and the “Custom Owl” for Mayors Bicentennial Park. Inspired by the historic Streamline Moderne Gas Station, the Custom Truck design features a gas pump play element, climbing structures, and a slide. The Custom Owl includes a climbing wall built into the owl’s wing, see-saw and springer elements, play panels, and a night-themed play surface. Both playgrounds emphasize inclusive play opportunities for children of all abilities, offering unique and imaginative spaces the community can be proud of!

The City of Glendale will be replacing the playground at Elk Mini Park. You are invited to get involved and choose your favorite playground design by taking the online community survey between October 3 and October 17, 2025 in English, Armenian, or Spanish.

Glendale’s General Plan OSCR Elements Update Underway
Glendale has officially launched the process of updating its Open Space and Conservation and Recreation Elements, known as OSCR, as part of the City’s General Plan. The Open Space and Conservation Element, last comprehensively updated in 1993, will be updated to reflect a shared vision for the future of Glendale’s natural resources, open spaces, and park system. The Recreation Element, last comprehensively updated in 1996, will be updated to address the community’s evolving needs for parks, recreational facilities, and programming. The Community Services & Parks Department will soon release public surveys to gather input and help shape the goals and priorities of these key planning documents over the next 20-30 years!

 Community Picks “Café & Ice Cream Store” for Wilson Mini Park Playground Replacement
In June 2025, staff partnered with two vendors to develop four creative playground concepts for Wilson Mini Park and invited public input through a multilingual online survey. The winning design—“Café and Ice Cream Store” by Kompan, Inc.—features a whimsical play tower with a café at ground level and a separate ice cream cart play element, offering themed, tactile play for all ages. The design was presented to the Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Commission on August 18, 2025, where it received a recommendation for City Council approval. Staff plans to bring the design to Council for final consideration in Winter 2025.

 Smoke Alarms Save Lives – Schedule Your Free Installation Today!

Did you know that having a working smoke alarm can cut the risk of dying in a home fire by 50%? That’s why the American Red Cross, along with fire departments, local volunteers, and community partners, is launching the Sound the Alarm campaign in Glendale.
As part of this vital fire safety initiative, volunteers will visit homes to install free smoke alarms and provide essential home fire safety education. The entire appointment will take about 30 minutes — a small amount of time that could make a life-saving difference.

As Student Commissioners, they will bring fresh perspectives and valuable insight into the needs and interests of the youth in our community. Their participation will help shape programs, policies, and initiatives that enhance the quality of life for all residents.

Group and private swim lesson registration is open. Registration for October swim lessons began Tuesday, September 30. Registration for November swim lessons will begin on Tuesday, October 28 online at 9:00 AM for verified residents and 10:00 AM for everyone. Lesson spaces fill up quickly, so be sure you have your residency verified and that you have a current online account before registering. You can log in at MyGlendaleParks.com to create or verify your account, and when registering, make sure to refresh your page if there are any delays.
We are excited that the Glendale Gators swim team and the Glendale Polo Bears water polo team will both continue through the fall. We will take a winter break and start back up in the spring. Private pool rentals are also available.
