GWP’s 2022 Consumer Confidence Report
To ensure the long-term reliability of Glendale’s power grid, GWP is currently repowering and modernizing the Grayson Power Plant into the new Grayson Energy Center. During construction, our local power generation capacity will be reduced, which could lead to energy shortfalls, especially during extreme heat events. Glendale is taking measures to mitigate issues and asks for customer support in times of increased demand.
If we experience continuous days of extreme heat, GWP will issue Peak Alerts, and ask Glendale residents and businesses to do their part to conserve energy as much as possible. Without energy conservation, we will likely have to endure rolling power outages to reduce strain on the grid.

Pole Base Repair Averts Emergency
Public Works inspection staff noticed that a streetlight pole base posed a hazard and immediately teamed up with GWP crews to secure the streetlight from falling into a busy roadway. Lighting standards are continuously reviewed and maintained by city crews since the safety of residents and visitors is a top priority. If you see a damaged or hazardous streetlight pole, please report it promptly to the Public Works Maintenance Services Division at: (818) 549-3950. You can also report below:
The City of Glendale has passed a resolution of intent to change from citywide elections to district elections to elect its City Councilmembers. Glendale is considering a plan for six (6) separate council districts and a directly elected mayor. The proposed change will be put before voters on the March 2024 ballot.
We've received 19 publicly submitted draft maps – 14 of which meet the requirement to have roughly the same population in each proposed district. NDC, the City's demographer, has created two additional draft maps that reflect feedback from the community, including two single-district map submittals and input on communities of interest.
Draft district maps are now available at MapGlendale.org on the Draft Maps page. We encourage community members to review and provide feedback on any of the maps. Our goal in gathering feedback on draft maps is to identify the map that should be included when voters decide whether to change to by-district elections.
Tips to Stay Cool!
The Office of Sustainability and the Glendale Central Library brought a touch of community collaboration at the City’s first clothing swap.
Participants brought up to 10 clean clothing items like shirts, bottoms, dresses, and jackets for staff to sort for swappers. At the end of the day, 290 pounds of clothing were collected; and a total of 71 residents participated in the swap!
Any leftover clothes were donated to the Assistance League thrift store, or the Makerspace to be used as scraps.
Stay Cool with the Cooling Fan Assistance Program

Got Hazardous Waste?
Do you have old batteries, electronics, paint, pesticides, household chemicals or automotive fluids?
These items and other hazardous materials can be disposed by Glendale residents for free by dropping them off at the Environmental Management Center every Wednesday and the second Saturday of every month from 9:00 AM-3:00 PM (events may be canceled due to holiday or weather restrictions).
For additional information, visit the Environmental Management Center’s website. Household Hazardous Waste can also be taken to a Los Angeles County Household Hazardous Waste Event. For additional information on these collection events, visit the Los Angeles County website for the event location, date, and time.
The City of Glendale started developing a Climate Action and Adaptation Plan (CAAP). A people-focused plan set to protect the community against increasingly frequent extreme weather conditions, such as heat waves, wildfires, and droughts, while reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Together with the community, Glendale will plan to reduce emissions and increase resilience.
Strategies and projects in the plan may include improving public transportation options and increasing building efficiency.
We need your help to provide input to the CAAP, spread the word, and take advantage of climate rebate programs. Tell us what a sustainable and livable Glendale looks like to you and sign up to receive updates at GlendaleCA.gov/CAAP.
