A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian
Summer is in full effect in Glendale, and we have plenty of options for everyone to stay cool and entertained this season. In this edition of City Connection, you'll find everything from upcoming events to valuable community resources. A couple of key updates from me:
The City of Glendale has been selected to receive $1.93 Million in State funds for technology advancement and open space improvement. Thanks to our State Legislators, we will be able to continue efforts in the Tech Accelerator Programs, and the upcoming beautification of Fremont Park. Additionally, earlier in July, Brand 51 launched their exhibit, “Annual National Juried Exhibition of Works on Paper” which will be on display until September 1st.
Read on to see what Glendale has in store for this summer, and hope to see you at an upcoming event!

28th Annual Cruise Night Was a Huge Success!
The 28th Annual Glendale Cruise Night took place on Saturday, July 15th. Almost 400 cars filled Brand Blvd. from Broadway to Doran St., with visitors walking the streets to see the cars, eat at our local downtown restaurants, and listen to the live music.
Performances by “Ticket to Ride – a Tribute to the Beatles”, “Gregory Wolfe as Rod Stewart”, and “Jumping Jack Flash – THE Tribute to the Rolling Stones” were enjoyed by all. Over 55 local businesses and organizations were in attendance with booths on the street, and local radio and news stations were in attendance broadcasting live from the event.
The evening wrapped up with a fireworks display from behind the main stage. Staff estimates that over 40,000 people were in attendance. We look forward to Cruise Night again in 2024!

Maintenance District 6 Pavement Rehabilitation Phase I Project Update
The pavement improvements on the MD6 project have been completed. Public Works utilized different pavement treatments to improve the driving conditions and extend the service life of the roadways in the neighborhood. To maximize efficiency and obtain the best value engineering, Asphalt Rubber Aggregate Membrane (ARAM) was installed prior to installing a topcoat of slurry seal to seal subsurface cracks, limit water intrusion, and provide a smooth driving surface.
This method helps to mitigate further pavement damage and ensure a high-quality finish. In general, slurry seal is a light brown color due to the chemical reactions and temperature of the mix. As the slurry seal becomes exposed to heat and sunlight, it cures and turns to black. Furthermore, major collector streets received another type of treatment called ARAM System 3, which consists of installing Asphalt Rubber Hot Mix (ARHM) over ARAM to provide longer service life on heavily used roadways.
