A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian
I’d like to begin this month’s message by announcing a shift in the City’s leadership. A big thank you to former Mayor Ardy Kassakhian for his steadfast leadership and passion for our community during his tenure as Mayor! On Tuesday, April 4, 2023, Glendale council members selected City Council Member Daniel “Dan” Brotman as the City’s next Mayor. Congratulations Mayor Brotman!
April is a month for us to reflect on the past and recognize those who have been affected by genocide. This month, we observe Genocide Awareness Month and as a city, we choose to remember and honor those impacted while moving forward together. Read more.

Raffie Joe Wartanian, Glendale’s First Poet Laureate, Set to Perform During Week of Remembrance

Raffi Joe Wartanian is the City of Glendale’s first Poet Laureate, serving as an ambassador for Glendale’s rich culture and diversity. As Poet Laureate, Wartanian will develop a project that engages community members of all ages in poetry writing, performance, and poetry appreciation; write a poem that celebrates Glendale’s rich culture and diversity; and read poetry aloud at special events throughout the City, like the Armenian Genocide Commemoration Committee's Slam Poetry night on April 17th. |

As a follow up to the public survey conducted between February 15-28, 2023, the City of Glendale would now like to receive your input on the proposed project alternatives. These premiered at the Community Open House on Thursday March 23, 2023, where attendees were able to offer comments on each of the three (3) alternatives.
Take the survey now! Whether you attended the open house or not, you’re strongly encouraged to complete this quick 2-minute survey to share your input on the alternatives, including identifying your preferences.

The City’s Tree Maintenance Services contractor, West Coast Arborists, Inc., has completed routine grid maintenance pruning of all City-owned trees in Maintenance District 5. Next: District 7!

The goal of pruning is to improve the structure of the trees and direct new growth, while enhancing their beauty and safety. Pruning on a six-year cycle ensures the trees are maintained in a safe condition without placing excessive stress on the tree's health. For more, click here. |
The Clean Off-Road Equipment Voucher Incentive Project (CORE) administered by CALSTART provides vouchers for qualified small business landscape professionals looking to switch to zero-emission equipment. Vouchers are worth up to $300 to $12,500 depending on the piece of equipment. To participate, click here.
South Coast AQMD is offering an incentive program that provides up to 85% on select electric lawn equipment for commercial landscaping businesses.
Eligible participants can now visit AQMD.gov/lawngarden to connect with a retailer and start the process!

GWP's Annual Student Art Contest is Now Open!
GWP's annual Student Art Contest is now open to K-12 grade Glendale students. Participating students are asked to submit artwork portraying the "Being Water Wise Is..." theme, along with a short water message that must be written on the artwork for a chance to win prizes and be featured in MWD's 2024 Calendar! Deadline to enter is on June 1, 2023.
From the entries received, GWP will select a 1st place winner ($100 Amazon Gift Card), 2nd place winner ($75 Amazon Gift Card) and 3rd place winner ($50 Amazon Gift Card) for their talents. A total of 15 entries will be selected by GWP and submitted to Metropolitan Water District (MWD) for a final round of competition, and additional prizes and recognition.
