Spring Break Camps
March 13 - 17, 2023 (Monday - Friday) Registration Opens February 13, 2023 @ 9:00 p.m.
Need child care during spring break? Sign up your 5-14 year-olds for one of our Spring Break Camps at the park. The camps will provide an opportunity for children to play, discover, learn, and interact. Campers will engage in food activities, science experiments, arts & crafts, individual sports, dance, and more! Basketball and Skate specialty camps will also be available. Teen Night Out

Teen Night Out (TNO) occurs every Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pacific Community Center. Teen Night Out provides a safe place for teens to hang out and enjoy activities like video games, ping pong, use of a computer lab, and karaoke. On some dates, a workshop is conducted starting at 6:00 p.m. as part of Teen Night Out. Light refreshments will be served. Riverwalk Workday Glendale Narrows Riverwalk 300 Paula Avenue, Glendale, CA 91201 March 11, 2023 8:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Spend the morning working next to the Los Angeles River on the City of Glendale’s Riverwalk. We need volunteers to help us remove invasive plants from the landscaped areas along the L.A. River. Please wear sturdy shoes, protective clothing, and bring sunscreen, sunglasses, a hat and water. We’ll provide the tools and gloves. Have you ever been to the Wilderness Park as the sun starts to set? Join us for a moderately difficult hike on the Mummy rock trail, the Le Mesnager Loop trail and the Vineyard trail as we learn all about the Wilderness Park when the sun goes down. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY
Are you interested in being a Trail Safety Patrol volunteer for the City of Glendale?
As a Trail Safety Patrol (TSP) volunteer, you have a unique opportunity to assist the City of Glendale by providing public assistance and resource protection. Your influence on park visitors will enhance their experience and safety while in our parks.
TSP volunteers must be 18 years of age, undergo a background check and City-mandated trail safety training, be in good health, and devote a minimum of four hours per month. If interested, please send an email to trails@glendaleca.gov.

GLENDALE OUTDOORS! (GO!) COMMUNITY PROGRAM

Spend some quality family time enjoying the great outdoors once a month with our naturalists! We invite the public to join us in exploring the Stone Barn Nature Center, an interpretive hike, and a nature-themed craft. Use scientific equipment, explore your local habitat in a new way, and make wild discoveries alongside your family for lasting memories in this unique program!
A FREE bus leaves from Pacific Community Center, 501 S. Pacific Ave. at 8:30 a.m. and returns at 12:30 p.m. Everyone is encouraged to ride the bus, but you may choose to meet us at the park.
Important information:
- If riding the bus with us (free), please arrive at Pacific Community Center by 8:00 a.m. to check in with staff. The bus will leave at 8:30 a.m. and return from Deukmejian at 12:30 p.m.
- If meeting us at the park, please meet us at Deukmejian Wilderness Park by 8:45 a.m.
- Appropriate for children ages 5 to 12.
- Adult supervision is required! One adult for every three children 17 and under is required.
- Please wear sturdy shoes, long pants, and a hat or cap.

Club Maple is a free program open to adults with intellectual disabilities which provides an opportunity for individuals to experience positive, healthy, recreational, cultural, educational, and social experiences. Get Fit In person every Monday February 6, 13, and 27, 2023 (No Get Fit on 2/20/23) 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Get Fit is a free program designed to improve the health status of adults with intellectual disabilities by focusing on nutrition, healthy meal planning, monthly weigh-ins and measurements, stretching and conditioning. Maple Inclusive Play Day (MIP Day) creates an opportunity for families with children of all abilities to come to the park, network with each other and allow their children to socialize, all centered around the Shane’s Inspiration all-inclusive playground.

Metro on the Move Riders Program February 8, 2023 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m.
Please join us and LA Metro in a virtual presentation meant to inspire older adults to use public transportation to explore exciting destinations along public transportation routes. The presentation will provide participants with transit oriented resources, travel training, transit tours and safety education.

Fitness Classes for Seniors
Exercise and fitness classes for seniors are offered virtually and in person at three locations: Adult Recreation Center, Pacific Community Center, and Sparr Heights Community Center. Classes include aerobics, slow stretch, line dancing, and muscle toning.

Senior Mixer

If you like to salsa, cha-cha, rumba, waltz or boogie, this is the place to be. This senior mixer takes place every other Friday and is a great opportunity to socialize with fellow seniors in the greater Glendale community, make new acquaintances, and have a good time. A suggested donation of $3.00 is collected at the entrance to the mixer. This is a gratuity that is given to the DJ at the end of each event.

Group and private swim lesson registration is open. Registration for February swim lessons is now available. Registration for March swim lessons begins Tuesday, February 21 at 9 a.m. online. Lesson spaces fill up quickly, so be sure you have your residency verified and that you have a current online account before registering. Water temperature is typically kept between 84-85 degrees during the winter months, but the air temperature may be cold or wet! We teach classes rain or shine, as long as there is no lightning (refunds are not provided unless we cancel classes). Please be mindful of the outside temperature and time of swim lesson before registering. You can log in at www.myglendaleparks.com to verify your account, and when registering, make sure to refresh your page if there are any delays. We are excited that the Glendale Gators swim team is continuing in the winter. Group and private rentals are also available.

Arbor Day 2023

Glendale Beautiful, in cooperation with the City of Glendale, will hold its annual Arbor Day Celebration. Join this community-wide effort by contributing to the purchase of a 24-inch box tree for only $150.00! Another option is supporting trees throughout the city for a suggested donation of $75.00. The contributions from this event will be used to help reforest and care for all trees in our parks and open spaces in the City of Glendale.
The deadline to purchase or support a tree is February 28, 2023. Ikebana - Japanese Flower Arrangement with Saeko
Brand Park Japanese Friendship Garden 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale, CA 91201 February 19, 2023 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Participants will the basics of Japanese flower arranging! Ikebana (生花) means living flowers. The Japanese art of flower arranging has been described as being at once more subtle, more sensitive, and more sophisticated than the methods of arranging flowers usually employed in other cultures. This is so because Ikebana is an art in Japan in the same sense that painting and sculpture are arts elsewhere.
$50 per person ($25 for materials; $25 for the class). Students must provide their own vase.
As of January 23, 2023, the workshop is at full capacity. Reservations will not be accepted anymore.

The Stone Barn Nature Center is now open! Please stop by during our open hours of operation to tour the center and learn about the history of the Deukmejian Wilderness Park and the Barn. Entry is free!
The Stone Barn was originally built between 1905-1915, by the Le Mesnager family. Throughout the years, it has served as a winery, stables, residence, and now a nature center. It burned down in the 1933 wildfire, but was rebuilt to the structure you see today.
Visit the nature center to learn about the history of the land by the Dunsmoor family, the winery that Georges Le Mesnager and his family operated, and the acquisition of the park by the City of Glendale.
From wildfires to wildlife, our backyard is full of exciting and amazing things. Join us to learn about techtonic movement that has created our mountains, the plants and bugs native to the hillsides, and the amazing creatures that roam in our own backyard.
The Barn is available for school field trips, private group tours, and private rentals.

When Should I Request Outreach for Homeless Services?
Did you see someone experiencing homelessness who needs help? Notice a homeless neighbor who seems to be struggling with their physical and/or mental health? Then you can help them by sending an outreach request and alert us as to any specific concerns you may have regarding the person’s well-being. As outreach capacity is limited, requests for those with more serious medical and/or mental health needs may be prioritized.

Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) is Accepting Applications
Low Income Family Employment and Rental Assistance Program
Low Income Family Employment and Rental Assistance Program (LIFERAP), in partnership with City of Glendale Housing Department and Verdugo Workforce Development Board, provides rental subsidy and employment assistance to qualified Glendale families for a 12-month period.
Motel Vouchers Available at Glendale Youth Alliance
GYA has available funds to assist homeless youth with motel vouchers. Youth must be 14-24 years old.
LA County Youth@Work Summer Youth Employment Program
GYA is accepting applications for the LA County Youth@Work program. Youth must be between the ages of 14-24 and receiving CalWORKs Cash aid. Program provides 120 hours of work experience based on their skills and aptitude as well as career counseling and training.
Employment Assistance Program (EIP)
GYA is accepting applications for the Employment Assistance Program. Youth must be between the ages of 18-24 AND NOT attending school; youth enrolled in non-credit courses qualify. Program pays for 200 hours of work experience as an incentive for businesses to hire our youth. The goal of the program is to transition youth to permanent employment at the completion of the program. GYA also provides intense career counseling as well as training and additional services based on their individual needs.
