The summer program at Pacific Community Pool is open for lap and recreation swim as well as swim lessons, teams and private rentals. Visit www.glendaleaquatics.com for current hours of operation, swim lesson times, team information and general program and registration information.
Summer group and private swim lesson registration is open. Registration for September swim lessons begins Tuesday, August 23 at 9 a.m. online. Lesson spaces fill up quickly, so be sure you have your residency verified and that you have a current online account before registering. You can log in at www.myglendaleparks.com to verify your account. We are excited to offer the Glendale Gators, swim team and the Glendale Polo Bears, water polo team programs this summer. The Gators will continue in the fall. Group and private rentals are also available.

Wading Pools
Wading Pools opened on June 14 for drop-by use, and you can reserve a wading pool for your private party, too! We are taking reservations for wading pool rentals through September, depending on staff and facility availability. Wading pools can be rented for your private birthday party or small gathering. Rates are $100 for the first hour of swimming, and $25 for every additional hour of swimming. You can also pay $40 to secure the designated tables close to the wading pool during your swim time. Produce and Nutrition Education Distribution
Maple Park & Community Center 820 E. Maple St., Glendale, CA 91205 August 11, 2022 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.
Produce and nutrition education materials will be distributed (while supplies last) at Maple Park on August 11 by Seeds of Hope, between 10 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. as part of the Cal Fresh Healthy Living Program. Come get some free produce, while supplies last.
The CalFresh Healthy Living Program is implemented by the LA County Department of Public Health's Nutrition and Physical Activity Program, in partnership with other organizations, such as Social Justice Learning Institute, Seeds of Hope, and Adventist Health Glendale. Community Services & Parks is proud to collaborate in this effort to educate the community and provide free produce.
This program is fully funded by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), and administered by the California Department of Social Services (CDSS) and the California Department of Public Health (CDPH).

“Discovering Glendale's Doctors House”
Lawn of the Doctors House Museum Brand Park 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale, CA 91202 September 24, 2022 Gates open at 6:00 pm. Screening at dusk.
Celebrate the end of summer with a “Movie Night” on the spacious lawn in front of the Doctors House Museum! TGHS presents the red-carpet premiere of Russell Harnden III’s documentary “Discovering Glendale’s Doctors House,” starring Doctors House Museum curator and tour guide Peter Rusch. The documentary will tell the story of how this Victorian Beauty was saved from destruction, cut in half, moved in the middle of the night, and reassembled by volunteers, who, unknowingly became the founders of the Glendale Historical Society.
Bring your family, blankets, picnic goodies, and refreshments, stretch out and relax and enjoy a short film “How to Move a House.” And then see our feature presentation screened on a state-of-the-art gigantic digital outdoor movie screen. The Glendale Historical Society will provide popcorn, a gazebo brimming with fun vintage candy, A special vintage prop display tribute to Glendale’s pioneering female film director Nell Shipman, photo opportunities on the red carpet, and fun for all ages.
Space is limited. Chairs will also be provided for those who prefer to take a seat for the performance.

Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP)
In-Person Congregate Dining for Seniors is Back!
The Elderly Nutrition Program has reopened its doors for in-person congregate dining after a 2-year closure due to the pandemic.
Operating under a hybrid model, the program continues to offer Grab and Go Meals as well as in-person dining at one of our three meal sites.

Join us down by the Los Angeles River on the City of Glendale’s Riverwalk, as we work to remove invasive plants from the landscaped areas along the L.A. River. Teen Night Out

Teen Night Out (TNO) occurs every Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Pacific Community Center. Teen Night Out provides a safe place for teens to hang out and enjoy activities like video games, ping pong, use of a computer lab, and karaoke. On some dates, a workshop is conducted starting at 6:00 p.m. as part of Teen Night Out. Light refreshments will be served. Club Maple is a free program open to adults with intellectual disabilities which provides an opportunity for individuals to experience positive, healthy, recreational, cultural, educational, and social experiences. Activities are age and skill appropriate. All participants are required to have a completed Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement form on file.
Get Fit In person every Monday, Resuming August 15, 2022 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
Get Fit is a free program designed to improve the health status of adults with intellectual disabilities by focusing on nutrition, healthy meal planning, monthly weigh-ins and measurements, stretching and conditioning. Activities are age and skill appropriate. All participants are required to have a completed Release of Liability & Indemnity Agreement form on file.
This program is dark for the summer through August 8, 2022.

Maple Inclusive Play Day (MIP Day) creates an opportunity for families with children of all abilities to come to the park, network with each other and allow their children to socialize, all centered around the Shane’s Inspiration all-inclusive playground.

Fitness Classes for Seniors: In-Person and Online
Exercise and fitness classes for seniors are offered in a hybrid format, online AND in-person. You are welcome to join us in either format. Classes include aerobics, slow stretch, line dancing, Zumba, and muscle toning.
If you wish to participate online via Zoom, please email cspcares@glendaleca.gov. We will send you a meeting invitation, meeting ID, and password.
In-person classes must follow all current LA County Health Department protocols. In-person classes will be offered at Pacific Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. In-Person classes will be offered at Sparr Heights Community Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays. See flyers for more information.
All exercise classes offered at Pacific Community Center, with the exception of the Senior Line Dance classes, moved to the Adult Recreation Center. Line Dance classes at Pacific Community Center and all classes at Sparr Heights Community Center are not affected and remain as previously scheduled. Senior Mixer

The senior mixer is a great opportunity to socialize with fellow seniors in the greater Glendale community, make new acquaintances, and have a good time.
If you like to salsa, cha-cha, rumba, waltz or boogie, this is the place to be. This activity takes place every other Friday. A suggested donation of $3.00 is collected at the entrance to the mixer. This is a gratuity that is given to the DJ at the end of each event.

When Should I Request Outreach for Homeless Services?
Did you see someone experiencing homelessness who needs help? Notice a homeless neighbor who seems to be struggling with their physical and/or mental health? Then you can help them by sending an outreach request and alert us as to any specific concerns you may have regarding the person’s well-being. As outreach capacity is limited, requests for those with more serious medical and/or mental health needs may be prioritized.

Stone Barn Nature Center

The Stone Barn Nature Center is now open! Please stop by during our open hours of operation to tour the center and learn about the history of the Deukmejian Wilderness Park and the Barn. Entry is free!
The Stone Barn was originally built between 1905-1915, by the Le Mesnager family. Throughout the years, it has served as a winery, stables, residence, and now a nature center. It burned down in the 1933 wildfire, but was rebuilt to the structure you see today.
Visit the nature center to learn about the history of the land by the Dunsmoor family, the winery that Georges Le Mesnager and his family operated, and the acquisition of the park by the City of Glendale.
From wildfires to wildlife, our backyard is full of exciting and amazing things. Join us to learn about techtonic movement that has created our mountains, the plants and bugs native to the hillsides, and the amazing creatures that roam in our own backyard.
The Barn is available for school field trips, private group tours, and private rentals.

Tours of the Historic Doctors House Museum
The Glendale Historical Society is providing guided tours of the Doctors House Museum every Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. There will be a special exhibit called, "Breaking Barriers: Early Women Entrepreneurs of Glendale," to salute the legacy of five historic Glendale women: Dorothy Thorpe, A. Lois Modglin, Nell Shipman, Fanny Briggs Carr and Piedad Yorba Sowl. The suggested donation is $5.00. The Doctors House is located inside of Brand Park at 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale, CA 91201.

Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) is Accepting Applications
LA County Youth@Work Summer Youth Employment Program
GYA is accepting applications for the LA County Youth@Work program. Youth must be between the ages of 14-24 and receiving CalWORKs Cash aid. Program provides 120 hours of work experience based on their skills and aptitude as well as career counseling and training.
Employment Assistance Program (EIP)
GYA is accepting applications for the Employment Assistance Program. Youth must be between the ages of 18-24 AND NOT attending school; youth enrolled in non-credit courses qualify. Program pays for 200 hours of work experience as an incentive for businesses to hire our youth. The goal of the program is to transition youth to permanent employment at the completion of the program. GYA also provides intense career counseling as well as training and additional services based on their individual needs.
Verdugo Jobs Center (VJC) offers a wide range of no-cost job training opportunities and job search and placement services in industries with a high need for qualified workers.
Currently, we have special grants for people who have employment barriers such as:
- Justice Involved and/or Formerly incarcerated
- Experienced, are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness
- Low Income
- English Language Learners
- Lost job due to layoff
Vocational Training Take control of your career path! Short Term Vocational Training can assist you gain the competitive edge you need to get back into the workforce. Verdugo Jobs Center administers special training grants that can cover the cost of vocational training for those who qualify! Training Grant Information Sessions are held online or by phone every Thursday at 11:00 a.m. If you’d like to attend please email VJCReferrals@Glendaleca.gov.
Prison to Employment (P2E) is an initiative that was created to assist individuals who were formerly incarcerated or **justice involved re-enter society and re-join the labor force. Through this grant, Verdugo Jobs Center is able to place individuals at worksites to gain work experience and on the job training. Additional services include but are not limited to supportive services, career pathway research and funding for vocational training. **Justice involved can be anyone who is on parole or probation, under mandatory supervision, or post-release community supervision and are supervised by, or are under the jurisdiction of, a county or the CDCR.
The Regional Intermediate Intervention Service for Employment (RIISE) is geared towards individuals who have experienced, are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness. Qualified clients work hand in hand with Verdugo Jobs Center staff to map out a pathway that will help them move towards self-sufficiency. In addition to career counseling, other services provided through the RIISE program are paid work experience, supportive service assistance and linkages to vocational training.
