A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian

We have a new generation of Glendale graduates ready to embark on the next chapter of their journeys! Congratulations to all 2022 graduates! May you continue to accomplish great things; I know our future is bright in your hands.
Cruise Night is back in full swing for 2022! Get your family and friends together and join us on Saturday, July 16, 2022, from 5:30-10:30 pm. Summer Concerts in the Park are also back at Verdugo Park on Wednesday evenings beginning July 6 at 7:00 pm. Click here for details.
Before I sign off, I’d like to talk about an upcoming, new federal holiday, Juneteenth Independence Day. June 19, 2022, marks the 157th anniversary of the last African American slaves being freed in Texas. This day of recognition, restoration, and celebration is commonly known as Juneteenth. Juneteenth is a great turning point for freedom in our nation’s history. It is a day to acknowledge our past faults, help heal current divisions, and move toward a future as a nation, more united. I encourage all Glendale residents to learn more about Juneteenth. Here’s a short article outlining its history.
As we settle back into our routines, I encourage you to get involved! There are openings in the Audit Committee, transportation and Parking Commission, and there is an opening for a student commissioner on the Sustainability Commission. Deadlines are coming up, so make sure to get your applications in!
I hope you have a great start to your summer, and I hope to see you around Glendale soon!

Organics Recycling Frequently Asked Questions
Organics and Recycling: What do they have in common?
Both organics and recycling collection services are required at all properties within the City. What does this mean for you? All single-family homes can now place bagged leftover food with yard trimmings. All commercial properties (businesses and multi-family properties) are required to subscribe to recycling and organics (leftover food and yard trimmings) collection, provided by the City’s franchised commercial haulers. Non-compliance is subject to fines. For additional information, email recycle@glendaleca.gov.

Pet of the Month
Meet Buxby! Buxby is 13 years old and likely the friendliest cat in Glendale! Not only does he work as a watchcat for his parents' complex, he loves being pet and easily makes friends with people and other animals! He also loves to roll in the dirt right after getting a bath which his Mom doesn't appreciate, but it's cute anyway! He's had his "pet tiger" stuffed animal since he was a baby and loves to play with him...sometimes, he will hide him for months and then bring him back out to play!
Fill out our form to have your furry best friend featured in our newsletter. We can't wait to meet the pets of Glendale!

Updates from Economic Development
Glendale's Economic Development Team attended the 2022 International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) Conference. The ICSC brought together around 22,000 dealmakers and industry experts in the retail and development industry. Our Economic Development Team's goals and objectives were to elevate Glendale’s profile, amenities and advantages for retailers, developers and investors, and discover market insights on emerging retail trends and best practices. Below are some common trends and takeaways:
- Developers are seeking growing businesses that need brick-and-mortar space;
- Consumers continue to shop despite inflation and supply chain disruption;
- Tenants of all types continue to expand;
- The pandemic has accelerated a need for digital menu boards and expanding drive-thru capacity.

The Fiscal Year 2020-21 Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Curb Ramp Installation, Sidewalk Repair, and Crack Seal Program has been completed. The Program reflects the City's efforts to provide compliant ADA infrastructure while also improving pedestrian and bicyclist safety. The Scope of Work involved the removal and reconstruction of sidewalk and street pavement surfaces to meet current ADA guidelines, and the application of crack seal in neighboring roadways as a preventative maintenance measure to further preserve the roadway infrastructure and extend the pavement life. Learn more about this project here.

One free kitchen organics recycling pail is available to each home to help recycle leftover food and soiled paper products. Pails will be delivered to all single-family homes as we distribute new carts in the next three years, but you can request to pick-up your pail now by completing an online request form on the Department of Public Works website.
