Summer group and private swim lesson registration for residents begins at 9:00 a.m. on May 17, and general registration begins at 9:00 a.m. on May 19. Lesson spaces fill up quickly, so be sure you have your residency verified and you have a current online account before registration begins. You can log in at www.myglendaleparks.com to verify your account. We are excited to offer the Glendale Gators, swim team and the Glendale Polo Bears, water polo team programs this summer. Wading Pools
Wading Pools will open on June 14 for drop-by use, but you can reserve a wading pool for your private party, too! We are now taking reservations for wading pool rentals from June through September, depending on staff and facility availability. Wading pools can be rented for your private birthday party or small gathering. Rates are $100 for the first hour of swimming, and $25 for every additional hour of swimming. You can also pay $40 to secure the designated tables close to the wading pool during your swim time. Please call (818) 937-7440 for a reservation.

Summer Day Camps 2022
Although a lot of our camps are already SOLD OUT...registration is STILL open for SPECIALTY CAMPS!
We're excited to offer Summer Day Camps at Brand Park, Pacific Community Center, Maple Park Community Center, Verdugo Park and Sparr Heights Community Center. The camps will provide an opportunity for campers to play, discover, learn, and interact in a safe place, all while abiding by L.A. County guidelines.
If the camp you are interested in is sold out, you can request to be added to the camp’s waitlist. However, we encourage you to also consider one of our many specialty camps below:
Kool Dayz Coding Camp Via CogniCoder is a two-week camp offered at Pacific Community Center, following the same curriculum as Kool Dayz with an additional component - 15 hours of computer coding instruction. Participants will enjoy all of the benefits of Kool Dayz Camp and learn computer coding as well. This camp is competitively priced and offers childcare from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
Maximum Potential Basketball Camp by Hoopapolooza takes place at Pacific Community Center. Coach Mark Herring is a native of North Carolina and has worked with the likes of Coach K (Kryzeski), retired Head Basketball Coach of Duke University and Team USA, Kobe Bryant, Carmelo Anthony, Jason Tatum, and other NBA All-Stars. Coach Herring focuses on fundamental skills and more advanced movements, covering dribbling, passing, shooting and agility.
Evolution Basketball Camp is a half-day camp at Verdugo Park that offers age-appropriate levels where participants can improve their abilities in dribbling, passing, shooting technique, and spatial awareness.
Nature Camp at the newly renovated Stone Barn Nature Center at Deukmejian Wilderness Park is a great way for campers to explore Glendale’s great outdoors, get hands on experiences, go on guided hikes, and make crafts. This is a full-day camp operating daily from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with extended care options also available. You can choose one of four week-long sessions between June 21, 2022 and July 15, 2022.
Yoga & Arts Summer Camp is taking place at Joe Bridges Clubhouse at Glenoaks Park. Each day starts with amusing kid’s yoga to relax and prepare the imagination for inspired artistic creations. Students will learn drawing, painting, shading techniques, and more. This half-day camp (9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.) is offered in two week-long sessions from June 20, 2022 through June 27, 2022, and is great for children ages 6 to 12 years old.

Parent's Night Out
If you’re a parent looking for a night out in the city, we have you covered. Register and drop off the kiddos for a night of fun activities, sports, friends, food and a movie! Participants are encouraged to bring pajamas, a blanket and a pillow. Space is limited!

Until May 16, 2022, the meal distribution plan for seniors currently enrolled in the Elderly Nutrition Program (ENP) is as follows:
- A Brown Bag meal will be distributed at the following sites:
- Adult Recreation Center – 201 East Colorado, Glendale, CA 91205 – 7 days per week
- Brown Bag Lunch Pick-up time is from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on the East side of the building at Louise St. entrance.
- Sparr Heights Community Center – 1613 Glencoe Way, Glendale, CA 91208 – Monday – Friday ONLY
- Brown Bag Lunch Pick-up time is from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Paloma Ave. entrance
*New and Returning Clients must fill out the Universal Intake Form before receiving a meal:

The Elderly Nutrition Program is excited to announce the grand reopening of in-person congregate dining at our three meal sites as of May 16, 2022.
Join us on Monday, May 16, 2022, at one of our meal sites to enjoy a lunch and celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Elderly Nutrition Program.
We will be giving away a commemorative T-shirt to seniors enrolled in the program. (while supplies last).
To kick off Older Americans Month, a Proclamation will be presented by City Council on May 10, 2022.

CSP, in collaboration with Adventist Health Glendale, will host a virtual presentation on heart attacks. The presentation will provide participants with information on how to prevent heart attacks through healthy eating and physical activity.

CSP, in collaboration with Dignity Health Glendale Memorial Hospital, will host a virtual presentation on stroke prevention. The presentation will provide participants information on how to prevent primary and secondary strokes, and discuss significant risk factors in each category.

Tot Time is Back!
Tot time is a free drop-in program for preschoolers (ages 5 and under) and their parents. Visit Maple Park Community Center or Pacific Community Center with your child. The facility will provide play equipment so your little one can explore and play with others while you provide the supervision. Teen Night Out
Every Friday at Alternating Locations 5:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Teen Night Out (TNO) occurs every Friday night from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., rotating between two locations, Pacific Community Center and Maple Park Community Center. Teen Night Out provides a safe place for teens to hang out and enjoy activities like video games, ping pong, use of a computer lab, and karaoke. On some dates, a workshop is conducted starting at 6:00 p.m. as part of Teen Night Out. Light refreshments will be served. Maple Inclusive Play Day (MIP Day) creates an opportunity for families with children of all abilities to come to the park, network with each other and allow their children to socialize, all centered around the Shane’s Inspiration all-inclusive playground.

Fitness Classes for Seniors: In-Person and Online
Exercise and fitness classes for seniors are offered in a hybrid format, online AND in-person. You are welcome to join us in either format. Classes include aerobics, slow stretch, line dancing, Zumba, and muscle toning.
If you wish to participate online via Zoom, please email cspcares@glendaleca.gov. We will send you a meeting invitation, meeting ID, and password.
Effective May 3, 2022, the 9:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. classes out of Pacific Community Center, will begin at 9:15 a.m. and 10:15 a.m., respectively. This 15-minute adjustment is only applicable to classes at Pacific Community Center. Line Dance classes at Pacific Community Center and all classes at Sparr Heights Community Center are not affected and remain as previously scheduled.
In-person classes must follow all current LA County Health Department protocols. In-person classes will be offered at Pacific Community Center on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays. Senior Mixer

The senior mixer is a great opportunity to socialize with fellow seniors in the greater Glendale community, make new acquaintances, and have a good time.
If you like to salsa, cha-cha, rumba, waltz or boogie, this is the place to be. This activity takes place every other Friday. A suggested donation of $5.00 is collected at the entrance to the mixer. This is a gratuity that is given to the DJ at the end of each event.
Beginning Thursday, June 16, 2022, the Senior Mixer is returning to the Adult Recreation Center located at 201 E. Colorado St., Glendale, CA 91205. The mixer will reoccur every Thursday thereafter, from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Art Exhibit: Mer Tun, Dzer Tun
Adams Square Mini Park Gas Station 1020 E. Palmer Ave., Glendale, CA 91205 Through May 21, 2022
"Mer Tun, Dzer Tun" by artist, Nelli Astvatsatrian, translates to “our home, your home” in Armenian. This installation seeks to reclaim and honor history, while laying testament to the resilience of indigenous peoples robbed of homeland everywhere. The Armenian diaspora community quilt features artwork from Glendale residents, as well as Armenians from 20 American cities and 4 cities internationally, reflecting on what "home" means to them.
The art display can be viewed at the Adams Square Mini Park located at 1020 E. Palmer Ave., Glendale, CA 91205 through May 21, 2022.
This temporary art installation is generously sponsored by the Glendale Arts and Culture Commission through funding from the Urban Art Program, and support from Glendale Library, Arts & Culture, Glendale Community Services & Parks, and the Adams Hill Neighborhood Association.

The Stone Barn Nature Center Is Now Open!

The Stone Barn Nature Center is now open! Please stop by during our open hours of operation to tour the center and learn about the history of the Deukmejian Wilderness Park and the Barn. Entry is free!
The Stone Barn was originally built between 1905-1915, by the Le Mesnager family. Throughout the years, it has served as a winery, stables, residence, and now a nature center. It burned down in the 1933 wildfire, but was rebuilt to the structure you see today.
Visit the nature center to learn about the history of the land by the Dunsmoor family, the winery that Georges Le Mesnager and his family operated, and the acquisition of the park by the City of Glendale.
From wildfires to wildlife, our backyard is full of exciting and amazing things. Join us to learn about techtonic movement that has created our mountains, the plants and bugs native to the hillsides, and the amazing creatures that roam in our own backyard.
The Barn is available for school field trips, private group tours, and will soon be available for private rentals.

When Should I Request Outreach for Homeless Services?
Did you see someone experiencing homelessness who needs help? Notice a homeless neighbor who seems to be struggling with their physical and/or mental health? Then you can help them by sending an outreach request and alert us as to any specific concerns you may have regarding the person’s well-being. As outreach capacity is limited, requests for those with more serious medical and/or mental health needs may be prioritized.
Tours of the Historic Doctors House Museum
The Glendale Historical Society will be providing guided tours of the Doctors House Museum every Sunday, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., beginning May 15, 2022. Starting in May, there will be a special exhibit called, "Breaking Barriers: Early Women Entrepreneurs of Glendale," to salute the legacy of five historic Glendale women: Dorothy Thorpe, A. Lois Modglin, Nell Shipman, Fanny Briggs Carr and Piedad Yorba Sowl. The suggested donation is $5.00. The Doctors House is located inside of Brand Park at 1601 W. Mountain St., Glendale, CA 91201.

Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) is Accepting Applications
COVID-19 Relief Program
The Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) COVID-19 Program will assist local youth ages 18-25 that are and have been affected by COVID to return their lives to normalcy. Individuals that have been laid off from work and/or receiving Unemployment Insurance between January 2020 and the present qualify! GYA will provide career counseling, as well as gas cards, work attire, pay utilities and other supportive services to successfully transition youth back into the workforce. LA County Youth@Work Summer Youth Employment Program
GYA is accepting applications for the LA County Youth@Work program. Youth must be between the ages of 14-24 and receiving CalWORKs Cash aid. Program provides 120 hours of work experience based on their skills and aptitude as well as career counseling and training.
Employment Assistance Program (EIP)
GYA is accepting applications for the Employment Assistance Program. Youth must be between the ages of 18-24 AND NOT attending school; youth enrolled in non-credit courses qualify. Program pays for 200 hours of work experience as an incentive for businesses to hire our youth. The goal of the program is to transition youth to permanent employment at the completion of the program. GYA also provides intense career counseling as well as training and additional services based on their individual needs.
Verdugo Jobs Center (VJC) offers a wide range of no-cost job training opportunities and job search and placement services in industries with a high need for qualified workers.
Currently, we have special grants for people who have employment barriers such as:
- Justice Involved and/or Formerly incarcerated
- Experienced, are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness
- Low Income
- English Language Learners
- Lost job due to layoff
Vocational training can assist someone gain the competitive edge they need to get back into the workforce. If it is time to update technical skills, learn a new in-demand software or transition to a new in demand career contact Verdugo Jobs Center. There are special training grants that can cover the cost of vocational training for those who qualify. These grants are for individuals who have been laid off from their job or are low income or English Language Learners.
Prison to Employment (P2E) is an initiative that was created to assist individuals who were formerly incarcerated or **justice involved re-enter society and re-join the labor force. Through this grant, Verdugo Jobs Center is able to place individuals at worksites to gain work experience and on the job training. Additional services include but are not limited to supportive services, career pathway research and funding for vocational training. **Justice involved can be anyone who is on parole or probation, under mandatory supervision, or post-release community supervision and are supervised by, or are under the jurisdiction of, a county or the CDCR.
The Regional Intermediate Intervention Service for Employment (RIISE) is geared towards individuals who have experienced, are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness. Qualified clients work hand in hand with Verdugo Jobs Center staff to map out a pathway that will help them move towards self-sufficiency. In addition to career counseling, other services provided through the RIISE program are paid work experience, supportive service assistance and linkages to vocational training.
