A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian
Election season is in full effect! The Glendale Municipal Elections will take place on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. Similar to the 2020 elections, early voting will be available for everyone. Vote Centers will be open from May 28 through June 7, 2022.
This is an excellent opportunity to provide you with some background on the City of Glendale’s government structure.
Glendale has a Council-Manager form of government, which is when an elected city council serves as the city’s primary legislative body and appoints a chief executive officer, or city manager. The city manager oversees day-to-day municipal operations, drafts a budget, and implements and enforces council’s policy and legislative initiatives. This is opposed to the Mayor-Council form of government, where the Mayor serves as the executive, as we see in cities like Los Angeles.
Glendale has five council members elected at large to serve four-year terms. Council members are not elected by district; the five elected members represent all Glendale residents. The Mayor presides at Council meetings and has ceremonial responsibilities and other Council duties.
This election season, the City of Glendale, Community College Board, and the Glendale Unified School Board have multiple seats open:
- Three seats for City Council
- One seat for City Clerk
- One seat for City Treasurer
- Three seats for Community College Board of Trustees, in areas 2, 3, and 4
- Three seats for Glendale Unified School Board, in areas B, C, and D Visit our website for a full list of candidates.
Be sure to register to vote if you haven’t already done so. The deadline to register for this election and have your name appear in the Electronic Pollbook at Vote Centers is May 23, 2022. If you happen to miss this deadline, you may still vote at any Vote Center in Los Angeles County through Conditional Voter Registration. To register to vote, visit RegisterToVote.ca.gov.
If you want to vote by mail, you may request a vote-by-mail ballot from May 3 through May 31, 2022. Vote-by-mail ballots can be returned by mail or in-person at designated drop-off locations. Visit LAVote.net to request a vote-by-mail ballot or to apply online.
If you have questions or want to learn more about Glendale elections, vote-by-mail, or L.A. County’s new modern voting methods, visit GlendaleVotes.org or call (818) 548-4000.
Regardless of who fills these available seats, we are committed to serving you and giving you the best quality of life possible. I look forward to working with the City Council and City staff to continue to provide you with the level of service that makes our Jewel City special.
Voting is the cornerstone of our democracy. I encourage everyone to exercise their civic duty and take some time out of their day (through an eleven-day period) to vote!

Organics Recycling Frequently Asked Questions
How should I bag leftover food?
Any food scraps (leftover bread, fruit, vegetables, meat, or other organic material) and soiled paper products (pizza boxes, napkins, etc.) should be secured in a clear bag then disposed in your green cart.
What kind of bag should I use?
Any clear plastic bag such as a large sandwich bag or clear shopping bag tied at the top. Any household bag will work as long as it is clear and the contents are visible. Compostable bags are NOT required.
Why is bagging leftover food required?
Bagging leftover food (food scraps and paper products) is required because organics carts are sent to a facility (transfer station) to separate food scraps from the yard trimmings.

The Stone Barn Nature Center is now open! Please stop by during our open hours of operation to tour the center and learn about the history of the Deukmejian Wilderness Park and the Barn. Entry is free!
The Stone Barn was originally built between 1905-1915, by the Le Mesnager family. Throughout the years, it has served as a winery, stables, residence, and now, a nature center. It burned down in the 1933 wildfire, but was rebuilt to the structure you see today.

Creative Crosswalks — Bye Bye Blasé White
The City of Glendale has completed the installation of “Creative Crosswalks” at three locations. These improvements promote pedestrian safety while cultivating a sense of place and economic development. Bye bye blasé white stripes. Hello artful crosswalks that add an aesthetic to walking! The city used earth-tone colors and avoided using colors or shapes that could be confused with traffic signs, such as yellow, red, and reflective paint, and octagonal shapes.
Check out the Glendale’s Citywide Pedestrian Plan!
