A Message from the City Manager, Roubik Golanian
Happy New Year, Glendale! We are officially in 2022 and I am excited for the opportunities that lie ahead! It’s safe to say that the past couple of years have been challenging, to say the least, but we have emerged stronger than before and with more resources that can help keep Glendale healthy and safe. In the spirit of safety, I’d like to remind you of the 12 actions you should take to prepare yourself and your family for an emergency at the start of each year. If you do one task each month, you'll be on your way to being prepared for any emergency by the end of the year (which will arrive sooner than you think).
January: Create a disaster communication plan
February: Store enough water for family and pets for at least 7 days
March: Store enough medications for family and pets for at least 30 days
April: Purchase an adequate first aid kit
May: Store enough food for family and pets for at least 7 days
June: Get a large or small container that will contain disaster supplies
July: Buy a portable radio, flashlights, and batteries for your disaster kit
August: Place clothing, shoes, sanitation and hygiene supplies in your disaster kit
September: Place tools in your disaster kit
October: Place cash in small bills in your disaster kit
November: Place copies of insurance policies and other important papers in your disaster kit
December: Update your disaster kit and review the plan with your family
Make a list of these monthly resolutions for 2022 in order to improve your preparedness! You can also learn more by visiting our Emergency Preparedness page.
Finally, I’d like to add one additional step to address the health and safety of our community: Get vaccinated and boosted! Visit glendaleca.gov/vaccine to learn how you can get your dose. In the meantime, it's crucial that everyone continues to wear their masks properly, maintain six feet from others when reasonably possible, and frequently wash hands with soap and warm water.
If the last two years have proven anything, it’s our ability to excel even in the face of significant challenges. Together we have created a sought-after community to live, work, and play. With a supportive and resilient community, we will seize every opportunity to continue to thrive.

Keep Water Conservation Top of Mind
Mother nature has been helpful with rain this month, but we are still in a drought and facing a water shortage due to a low snowpack. To conserve water, remember to turn off automatic sprinklers two days before expected rainfall and leave them off at least two days after a good rainstorm. To save water indoors, use a bucket to collect the water in the shower as you wait for it to warm up and use that water in planters. Watering is limited to Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. Every drop counts!

Grayson Repowering Project Upcoming Meetings
The proposed Grayson Repowering project means providing efficient and reliable power to Glendale homes and businesses, especially in times of emergency and high demand. On August 9, 2021, GWP published the Partially Recirculated Draft Environmental Impact Report (PR-DEIR) for a 98-day public comment period. An overview of the PR-DEIR will be presented to the Sustainability Commission on January 24, 2022, at 5:30 p.m., and the GWP Commission on January 31, 2022, at 5:30 p.m. The PR-DEIR will be presented for approval to the City Council on February 8, 2022, at 6:00 p.m. Click here for more information. Watch GWP’s video Providing Reliable Power to learn more about the need for the Grayson Repowering project.
