Homeless Continuum of Care Success Stories
Najar Family – Homeless No More!
Meet the Najar family: Jennifer is a single mom of a sweet 5-year old little girl. Jennifer and her daughter had been homeless for over two years, spending most of their time living in a crisis shelter in the San Fernando Valley. Jennifer shared that due to lack of support she found herself having anxiety and lost all hope. The family was referred to Family Promise by the City which led to the family being accepted into their program. Family Promise bridged the family to resources including school, counseling, meals, clothing and more. Working alongside Family Promise and Glendale staff, the mother was able to secure housing on February 3, 2021, a feat she has been waiting nearly two years to reach. City of Glendale is thrilled to be able to provide continued resources through this rapid rehousing program in partnership with Family Promise.
Single Mom Avoids Eviction during the Pandemic
A single mom (whom we will call Rachel) and her two-year old daughter were at imminent risk of eviction from their Glendale apartment due to the pandemic. Rachel works full-time in an entry level position. She supports her baby on a barebones budget and makes just enough to get by. When she experienced a temporary loss of income caused by COVID-19 challenges, this immediately sent her into a financial crisis, and she fell behind on rent. After exhausting all her resources, Rachel saw no other way of catching up or stopping the “chain reaction” that this temporary loss of income had created. Family Promise was able to use ESG-CV funds to pay two months of rental arrears to the landlord, giving Rachel and her baby the clean slate they needed to keep their apartment and recover from this setback.
Family Promise of the Verdugos Success Story: Meet the Collins Family
This key represents hope, success, triumph and new opportunities. Meet the Collins family: Last Saturday, we had the privilege of helping the Collins family sign their lease and move back into housing after having been homeless for months. The family of five became homeless after relocating to Glendale because of a new job dad was able to secure.
The family arrived to town and only planned on staying in a motel until everything was all settled with work and identifying a new apartment. However, within 3 weeks Mr. Collin's place of employment closed due to restrictions caused by the pandemic. The family was just about to move into an apartment, but with no income the landlord wasn't able to approve them. Family Promise welcomed the family into their program and have assisted with shelter, food, securing employment, and now housing. Through the City of Glendale’s Measure H Rapid Rehousing program, Family Promise will continue to be a resource for the family these first few months to help provide stability.

Aerobics classes can aid senior citizens in creating a sense of community, value, and purpose in addition to improving physical health. Additionally, the increased upper body and lower body strength that comes with a regular aerobics exercise routine can help with fall prevention.
Slow Stretch Days: Mondays and Thursdays Times: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.

Muscle Toning Days: Tuesdays and Fridays Times: 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
