Whether you’re starting a new business or renewing your existing license, having a valid business license is required to operate legally in the City of Galt. Business licenses are issued under Galt Municipal Code (GMC) Title 5 – Business Taxes, Licenses, and Regulations.
Step 1: Determine Which Application You Need
-
Local Businesses: If your business is located within Galt city limits, use the Application for the Conduct of Business. Licenses are issued annually and must be renewed each year. Apply here: Local Business License Application
-
Out-of-Town Businesses: If your business is located outside Galt city limits but conducts business within the City of Galt, use the Quarterly Out-of-Town License application. This license is also annual and requires yearly renewal. Apply here: Out-of-Town Business License Application
Step 2: Submit Your Application and Payment All applications must be filed and paid online. Once approved, your business license certificate will be issued, and you’ll need to display it in a visible location at your business.
Step 3: Renew Annually Business licenses are due January 1 each year. Payments received more than 30 days after the due date will incur a penalty, per GMC Title 5. Mark your calendar to stay current!

The City of Galt would like to remind residents that enforcement of Galt Municipal Code Section 8.20.110(K)—regulating the parking and storage of RVs, boats, trailers, and campers on residential properties—will resume on Tuesday, November 18, 2025.
At the September 16 City Council meeting, the Council voted to maintain the existing ordinance and approved a 60-day grace period to allow residents additional time to meet compliance requirements.
Residents are asked to take the following steps to ensure compliance with Section 8.20.110(K):
- Remove or relocate any RV, Boat, Trailer, or Camper in violation of Section 8.20.110(K) from your residential property.
- Maintain at least a three-foot wide continuous fire access in any side or rear yard where your RV, Boat, Camper, and Trailer is located in the RV access area.
- Ensure that parking or storage does not occur on front lawns, or within required front yard setbacks as defined in The City of Galt Municipal Code Section 8.20.110 (K).
Beginning November 18, properties that remain out of compliance will enter the abatement process, which may result in administrative fines.
The City appreciates the community’s cooperation in supporting the safety, appearance, and overall welfare of Galt neighborhoods.
For questions regarding measurement requirements, fire access, or general compliance, please contact the City of Galt Code Enforcement Division at (209) 366-7209.

With the recent time change, you may notice one or more streetlights are out. If you see an outage, intermittent light, vandalism, or damage, please report it using the Galt Connect phone app or through the city website under “Report an Issue.”
Alternatively, you can contact the Public Works Department at (209) 366-7260 during regular daytime hours, or the Police Department non-emergency line at (209) 366-7000 for after-hours and holiday reports.

Please note that response times can vary, so it may take a few days – your patience and assistance in helping the city are greatly appreciated!
Fats, oils, and grease (FOG) can create major problems in the City’s sewer system. When poured down the drain, FOG can solidify on the sides of pipes, gradually building up until a clog forms.
If a clog occurs in your sewer line, sewage may back up into your home, resulting in costly plumbing repairs. If the clog occurs in the city sewer main, sewage could overflow onto the street and flow into storm drains, polluting local creeks and streams.
To help prevent sewer clogs, the City of Galt encourages residents and businesses to follow these simple steps:
-
Never pour fats, oils, or grease down the drain.
-
Scrape and wipe pots, pans, and dishes with paper towels before washing, and dispose of scraps in the organics bin.
-
Collect and dispose of FOG properly: After cooling, pour it into a disposable container such as a glass jar, coffee can, or waxed paper carton (milk or juice cartons). Once solidified, secure the lid and place it in the trash.
-
Avoid using your garbage disposal for food scraps. Instead, place them in the organics bin.
By following these steps, you can protect your home, support the City’s sewer system, and help keep Galt’s waterways clean.
