As we approach Independence Day, we want to remind our community that the possession and use of illegal fireworks is a crime — and this year, enforcement efforts are stronger.
This week, the Galt Police Department, City of Galt Code Enforcement, and Cosumnes Fire Department will be working together to help keep our community safe. New this year, our teams will be utilizing drone technology to help identify individuals using illegal fireworks and respond to reports of violations.
Important changes this year:

Each illegal firework used, possessed, or ignited will be treated as a separate violation.

First offense: $1,000 fine

Each additional offense: $1,000 fine
Penalties apply not only to those setting off fireworks but also to property owners, renters, and event hosts who allow illegal fireworks on their premises.
For fireworks complaints or noise issues, please call the Galt Police Department's non-emergency line at 209-366-7000. Please keep 911 reserved for real emergencies.

The Cosumnes River Preserve invites the community to its Speaker Series event on Friday, July 18, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM, featuring a special presentation on the Bird Return Program.
Experts will share fascinating insights into migratory bird patterns and explain how the Bird Return Project works with agricultural and wetland communities to restore critical habitat throughout the Central Valley.
Whether you’re an experienced birdwatcher or simply interested in learning more about local wildlife, this is a wonderful opportunity to deepen your understanding of the remarkable birdlife that depends on the Pacific Flyway.

Session 3 of swim lessons begins on July 7, and registration is now open. Lessons are offered for all skill levels, as well as Parent-Child Aquatics for ages 6 months to 3 years.
Swim lessons run from June 9 through August 23, providing multiple opportunities to build skills and confidence in the water.
