The City of Galt is growing—and so is our park system! As we continue to add new recreational spaces to serve our community, we’re inviting residents to help name the upcoming parks planned for the Liberty Ranch and Elliott Ranch subdivisions.
Please review the naming guidelines below, as only submissions that meet the criteria will be considered.
Submitted names must align with the City of Galt’s official naming policy. All suggestions will be reviewed based on the following criteria:
-
Geographic relevance — Nearby streets, neighborhoods, plants, or natural features.
-
Historical significance — Events or persons or historical significance.
-
Community impact — Individuals or organizations of local significance bearing a relationship to the City of Galt or its parks and recreation system. This relationship is generally noted by outstanding and unusual contributions to the community in terms of leadership, involvement, or substantial and significant donations of land and/or funds.
The deadline to submit your park name idea is Wednesday, May 7, 2025, at 5:00 PM. For questions, please contact the Galt Parks and Recreation Department at (209) 366-7180.
At its October 1, 2024 meeting, the Galt City Council reviewed a letter dated August 24, 2024, from the law firm Shenkman & Hughes, PC. The letter alleged a violation of the California Voting Rights Act (CVRA) and threatened litigation if the City did not voluntarily shift from an at-large to a district-based election system for electing council members.
In response, the City Council adopted Resolution No. 2024-89, declaring its intent to transition to district-based elections.
On April 1, 2025, the City Council formally adopted Ordinance No. 2025-04, establishing by-district elections, defining council district boundaries, and setting the schedule for future elections within those districts. Under this new system, all five council members will be elected by district, as shown in the officially adopted district map.
Beginning in 2026, and every four years thereafter, City Council seats for Districts 1, 3, and 5 will be up for election. In 2028, and every four years thereafter, seats for Districts 2 and 4 will be up for election. District boundaries may be revised in accordance with state law.
The City’s practice of annually appointing a member of the City Council to serve as Mayor for a one-year term will remain unchanged.
