The City of Galt is excited to announce the return of our Free Compost Program, running from March through June 2025! This popular initiative provides Galt residents with free compost on a weekly basis, perfect for enriching gardens just in time for spring planting.
Building on the success of last year’s program—where over 770 tons of compost were distributed—we are expanding availability to more than 1,000 tons this year! This program supports Senate Bill 1383, California’s statewide effort to reduce organic waste in landfills. By participating, residents help complete the cycle of organic recycling, turning green waste collected from curbside carts into nutrient-rich compost for local gardens.
Program Details:
-
Bring your own shovels, gloves, and containers.
-
Manual loading only – no mechanical or equipment loading allowed.
- Limited to six (6) 5-gallon buckets per household per week.
-
For residential use only – no commercial collection permitted.
Restocking & Pickup Location:
-
Restocked Weekly: Compost will be replenished every Thursday and Friday, as available.
-
Location: Caroline Avenue Parking Lot (across from the Library).
We appreciate your participation in this program and your commitment to sustainability! For more information, contact the City of Galt Public Works Department at (209) 366-7260 or visit our website by clicking the link below.
