The City of Galt congratulates outgoing Vice Mayor and City Council Member Rich Lozano on his 2024 election to the Cosumnes Community Services District, CCSD. Rich and his immediate family have an illustrious and generous history of public service to the citizens of Galt and Elk Grove.
While on our City Council, Rich was our liaison to the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, SACOG, serving on initiatives that importantly improved our roadways and transportation network. He represented our fire services management and needs to the Cosumnes Community Services District, where he now returns to serve. Rich was first elected to Galt City Council in 2018 and initially served as Vice Mayor in 2020. He was re-elected to City Council in 2022, again focusing his service on public safety. Rich now vacates his roles on the City Council immediately.
Rich worked for the Elk Grove Unified School District for more than 28 years where he retired as the Assistant Director of the Safety, Security, and Police Services Division. He worked for 23 years as a School Police Officer and Police Sergeant. Rich holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a California P.O.S.T. Intermediate Certificate. Rich has been awarded several professional awards for distinguished service and his role in critical incidents.
If you have ever attended our annual Community Holiday Dinner, you’ve likely had Rich serve you a warm plate of turkey, mashed potatoes, and dressing or have received a drink or dessert from him. He is an active member of the Galt Sunrise Rotary Club and an exemplary Galt resident who strongly believes in service to his friends and neighbors. He’s been active in years of holiday toy drives in Galt and Elk Grove, and with his wife Pam, coached numerous youth sports teams for many years.
We’re grateful for Rich’s service to Galt and are excited for his future contributions to the CCSD. Thank you, Rich and Pam for the generosity of your talents and time.

SACOG, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments, has recently published an article that highlights our city's C Street Improvements Project. Take a moment to read the article, which focuses on the need for improvements to C Street, its importance to revitalizing businesses, and the connection that C Street enables for our residents, visitors, and businesses.
We anticipate the completion of C Street improvements in February 2025. The roadway will be open for two-way traffic by the end of December. To learn about the project and its advancement, visit the project website: www.CStreetProject.org.
The City of Galt received $2.5 million in Community Design funds from SACOG for this project.
About SACOG, the Sacramento Area Council of Governments: In partnership with its 28 member cities and counties, SACOG addresses complex challenges that are too big for any one jurisdiction to solve on its own. A dedicated staff of 60 operates under the guidance of a board of directors representing each city and county.
As the sole public agency representing every regional jurisdiction, SACOG fosters collaboration and progress for an equitable, sustainable, and prosperous future. SACOG's multifaceted support extends to local governments, addressing diverse issues such as transportation planning, funding assistance, airport planning, and housing affordability.

Holidays Reminder: Sort Organics Properly
The holidays create lots of food waste. From office and school parties to gatherings with friends and family, it's a wonderful time of the year to celebrate and also a great time to sort organics correctly.
California law, Senate Bill 1383, requires that organic materials are kept out of landfills. All residents must separate organics from their garbage and put food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings in the Organics cart (formerly the Green Waste cart) for weekly collection.
Keeping organics out of landfills reduces the creation of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and extends landfill capacity. Properly sorted organics can be processed into beneficial mulch and compost, which help to make nutrient dense, water-retaining soil that's perfect for growing vegetables and fruits.
|
What's acceptable in the green Organics cart? • Yard Trimmings: leaves, grass, branches, and prunings (4” diameter or less), and clean wood scraps. Put all yard trimmings loose into the Organics cart - no plastic bags! • Food Scraps: Fruit and vegetables — peelings, pits, seeds, cores, stems, meat scraps that are cooked or uncooked, bones, shells, cheese, bread, cereal, pasta, eggshells, uneaten, spoiled food. • Food-Soiled Paper: Used napkins, paper plates (non-coated), paper towels, coffee filters and grounds, tea bags, paper bags and greasy pizza boxes.
These items are NEVER sorted into the green Organics cart: plastic bags, Styrofoam, take-out containers, utensils, coated paper, compostable cups/utensils, glass, metal, liquids, oil /grease and pet waste.
Thanks for your attention to these sorting guidelines that will help you make sense of recycling through the holiday season.

District-Based Elections
The City of Galt is now in the process of transitioning to district-based elections for our City Council members. We provide background information at this dedicated web page.
The City of Galt commits to keeping all voters appraised of this process as we begin working with subject-matter experts in demographics, districting, and elections law who will guide our transition. At our first Public Hearing on Tuesday, November 19, we had an educational overview of the district-based election process.
We encourage residents to attend and get involved as we navigate this transition. There will be four more Public Hearings to educate the City Council and the public and to gather input from residents on the mapping process. Our next scheduled Public Hearing will be during the upcoming City Council meeting on Tuesday, December 17. We appreciate your attention to this and ongoing engagement as we head towards a new way of voting for elected representation in our City. Click on the FAQs button for more extensive information.
The City of Galt will host a Used Oil Filter Exchange on Saturday, December 7, 2024, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at O'Reilly Auto Parts.
For every oil filter recycled, you can receive a new one for free (limit 2). Not for use by commercial automotive or repair facilities.
