Proposed Maverik Gas Station: Fact Not Fiction
Questions and rumors are circulating about a potential Maverik Gas Station in Galt. We would like to provide our community with factual information related to an application the City is currently processing.
On June 3, 2024, the City of Galt Planning Division received an application for a new Maverik Gas Station and Convenience Store to be located on a vacant 4-acre parcel along the future Crystal Way extension, east of the Central Galt interchange (APN 150-0082-018). It is the first project application received for the 40-acre Galt Ranch commercial development area.
What IS Proposed:
- A 5,951 sq. ft. convenience store with a fresh food counter
- 26 gasoline fuel pumps
- 5 high-speed commercial fuel islands
- 35 vehicle parking spaces
- On-site RV sewage dump and 2-CAT scales
What IS NOT Included:
- Truck parking stalls
- Truck stop amenities, e.g., showers or overnight parking
What Happens Next? This proposal is considered a ‘Gas Station with a Convenience Market’ per the Galt Municipal Code and is subject to a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) in the Highway Commercial zone. An environmental study and traffic study are currently underway as part of the project entitlements. The project will be determined by the Planning Commission at a future noticed public hearing in the first quarter of 2025. The community will be notified as soon as a public hearing date has been determined.
We are committed to a transparent process and encourage community participation in writing or in person at the public hearing. Stay tuned for updates and announcements regarding this project! For further clarification or concerns, you can send an email to the City of Galt Planning Division at PlanningDivision@CityOfGalt.org.

Galt's Award-Winning Finance Team
Once again, our City’s outstanding Finance team is in our spotlight. Their hard work has received recognition with the Distinguished Budget Presentation Award from the Government Finance Officers Association, GFOA.
In order to receive this award, Galt’s Finance team had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation that show how well a budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide, and a communications device. According to GFOA, more than 1,700 participants are in the Budget Awards Program. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide an excellent example for other governments throughout North America.
Congratulations to our Finance team for its second award from GFOA in 2024. We’re very proud of them.
Thanksgiving Reminder: Sort Organics Properly
With Thanksgiving almost here, it's always helpful to remember how to sort excess organic materials, especially food waste.
California law, Senate Bill 1383, requires that organic materials are kept out of landfills. All residents must separate organics from their garbage and put food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings in the Organics cart (formerly the Green Waste cart) for weekly collection.
Keeping organics out of landfills reduces the creation of methane, a potent greenhouse gas, and extends landfill capacity. Properly sorted organics can be processed into beneficial mulch and compost, which help to make nutrient dense, water-retaining soil that's perfect for growing vegetables and fruits.
|
What's acceptable in the green Organics cart? • Yard Trimmings: leaves, grass, branches, and prunings (4” diameter or less), and clean wood scraps. Put all yard trimmings loose into the Organics cart - no plastic bags! • Food Scraps: Fruit and vegetables — peelings, pits, seeds, cores, stems, meat scraps that are cooked or uncooked, bones, shells, cheese, bread, cereal, pasta, eggshells, uneaten, spoiled food. • Food-Soiled Paper: Used napkins, paper plates (non-coated), paper towels, coffee filters and grounds, tea bags, paper bags and greasy pizza boxes.
These items are NEVER sorted into the green Organics cart: plastic bags, Styrofoam, take-out containers, utensils, coated paper, compostable cups/utensils, glass, metal, liquids, oil /grease and pet waste.
Thanks for your attention to these sorting guidelines and have a happy Thanksgiving holiday.
