As the summer sun blazes and temperatures rise, keeping your home cool while managing energy costs becomes a priority. Here are some practical tips to help you save energy and keep your home comfortable during the hottest months of the year.
1. Use Appliances During Cooler Hours Use your oven, stove, dishwasher, dryer, and washing machine early in the morning or later in the evening when it's cooler outside. This helps your home stay cooler and reduces the load on your air conditioning.
2. Unplug Small Appliances Unplug small appliances and electronics like coffee makers and printers when you're not using them. These items still use power even when turned off if they are plugged in, so unplugging them saves energy.
3. Change Your Air Filter Change the air filter in your HVAC system regularly. Dirty filters make your system work harder, using more energy. Clean or replace your filters every one to three months to help your system run more efficiently and improve your indoor air quality.
4. Seal Air Leaks Seal air leaks around your home. Gaps and cracks in doors and windows let cool air escape, making your air conditioner work harder. Use weatherstripping and caulk to seal these leaks and save up to 20% on your cooling costs.
By following these easy steps, you can stay cool and save energy this summer, keeping your home comfortable while lowering your energy bills.

Where You Belong
July is a time to celebrate Park and Recreation Month, a nationwide initiative to promote the building of strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation. This month is dedicated to recognizing and celebrating the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals, along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers, who maintain our country’s local, state, and community parks.
This year's theme, “Where You Belong,” highlights the countless ways park and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in their communities. These professionals provide welcoming and inclusive programs, essential services for all ages and abilities, and safe, accessible spaces that encourage meaningful connections.
Parks and recreation areas are vital to our community’s health and well-being. They offer spaces for physical activity, social interaction, and mental relaxation. They also serve as hubs for community events, educational programs, and cultural activities, enhancing the quality of life for everyone.
Throughout Park and Recreation Month, we invite you to join us in celebrating the invaluable contributions of our parks and recreation workers. Whether it’s through attending a local event, participating in a recreational program, or simply spending time in one of our beautiful parks, your involvement helps demonstrate why these spaces truly are where you belong.
