City of Fullerton Updates
Euclid-Brookhurst Street Improvements
The City is currently constructing two major streets, Euclid Street from Williamson Avenue to Fern Drive and Brookhurst Road from Orangethorpe Avenue to Commonwealth Avenue.
Euclid Street improvements involve upgrading the existing sewer main pipe, replacing and upgrading the existing water main pipe, repairing and constructing curb, gutter and sidewalk, and access ramps, before rehabilitating the existing pavement surface. The project is currently behind schedule and is expected to take several more months to complete. The City is continually coordinating with the Contractor to accelerate the construction schedule while also maintaining worksite safety and quality of work.
Brookhurst Road improvements involve modifications to the main sewer pipes, replacing a damaged storm drain pipe, repairing and constructing curb, gutter and sidewalk, and access ramps, before rehabilitating the existing pavement surface. Due to the current thickness of the asphalt pavement, the rehabilitation will involve rejuvenating a portion of the existing asphalt concrete pavement which minimizes the construction impact to the public and reduces waste, time, and cost. The project is currently on schedule and budget.

Airport Runway Shoulder Improvements
Fullerton Airport will be breaking ground in September on improvements to the runway shoulders. This work will involve constructing pavement adjacent to the existing runway to increase safety for planes taking off and landing. Improvements will also include upgrading runway lighting and signage to LED, which will lower maintenance needs and utility costs. Work will be completed at night to allow the Airport to open to the public during the day.
The City’s Airport Manager was able to secure funding for this project from the FAA. The funding will pay for 100% of all project costs, including construction, construction plans preparation, inspection and testing, and staff management.
Transportation Center Stairs Replacement
 |
|
The City and OCTA recently completed a joint project to replace the existing stairs over the railroad tracks at the Fullerton Train Station. The project involved removing the existing stair treads, installing new concrete stair treads, new railings, in addition to drainage facilities and painting. |
 |
|
The city was responsible for preparing the design plans and provide associated City permits. OCTA, through Federal grant funding, was responsible for construction costs and construction management. The project was constructed in phases to maintain public access and was completed on time and within budget. |
Congratulations to Fullerton Public Library's Summer Reading Winners!
All good things must come to an end, including our Summer Reading for Grown-Ups program. Congratulations to our grand prize winner, Angelina, a recently retired high school teacher who plans on making extensive use of her new iPad as she starts a new career as a voice-over artist. You can read Angelina's book reviews and hundreds of others in the lobby of the Main Library, where they will remain displayed throughout August.
As always, the Summer Reading Club in the Children's Library remains the main star of our summer productions, with 1,069 kids participating this year. Not to be outdone, the Children's Department also gave away a tablet in 2021. Please join our dedicated Children's Librarians and the rest of the Fullerton Library staff in congratulating Kamila. She's our Children's Summer Reading Club Amazon Fire tablet raffle winner!
Not an adult OR a child? FPL also has a Summer Reading Program just for Teens, with plenty of fun prizes like boba-making kits and acrylic paint sets given away to our teenage patrons this year.
