According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 75% chance El Niño will reach record levels this year – exceeding previous El Niños dating back to 1950. El Niño means warmer ocean surface temperatures, increasing the available moisture in the atmosphere. While El Niño doesn’t always coincide with increased heavy rainfalls, severe storms are possible and now is the time to prepare.
Steps to prepare now:
- Clear leaves and debris from gutters, yards, and drains.
- Trim trees, removing dead or diseased wood and overextended limbs.
- Consider signing up for Adopt-a-Drain, to keep your nearby storm drain clear.
- Stay informed: opt-in for alerts and notifications.

Fremont celebrated its 15th Annual Manufacturing Week last week, connecting nearly 500 students with 12 local companies to explore career opportunities in one of the city’s leading industries.
Organized by the City of Fremont’s Economic Development team in partnership with local educational institutions and industry leaders, the event provided students from Fremont Unified School District (FUSD), Ohlone College, Mission Valley ROP, CSU East Bay, and San José State University with behind-the-scenes access to Fremont’s advanced manufacturing facilities.
As a hub for advanced manufacturing and innovation, Fremont is home to a thriving industry that creates high-quality career opportunities across a range of educational backgrounds and skill sets. Through guided facility tours and direct exposure to local employers, Manufacturing Week helps students discover career pathways in modern manufacturing, engineering, and research and development (R&D).
An affiliate event of National Manufacturing Day, Fremont Manufacturing Week expands the national workforce development initiative into a weeklong experience, reflecting the scale and importance of manufacturing to Fremont’s economy.
Thank you to the 12 participating companies, educational partners, and everyone who helped make this milestone year a success and inspire the next generation of manufacturing professionals!
