Mowry Avenue will be closed between Mission Boulevard and Overacker Avenue on Saturday, October 17, from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Message boards will be posted on Mowry Avenue alerting residents of this closure.
The closure is necessary to perform pump station maintenance, asphalt patching, directional delineator repair and replacement, and cleaning and sweeping of debris that is difficult to collect while the roadway is open.
Residents and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes, plan ahead, and allow additional travel time while the work is being completed.
The City appreciates your patience and cooperation as we work to maintain Fremont’s infrastructure and keep our streets safe and reliable.
Fremont has once again been recognized as a leader in sustainability, earning the #7 spot in WalletHub’s 2026 Greenest Cities in America report. The study evaluated the 100 largest U.S. cities across 28 environmental indicators, including greenhouse gas emissions, air and water quality, transportation, renewable energy, and local sustainability policies. Fremont stood out with an impressive overall score of 67.10, ranking #1 in both the Environment and Energy Sources dimensions. This reflects the City’s strong commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions, preserving ample green space, and advancing renewable energy. This achievement is made possible by the collective efforts of our community to create a more climate‑ready Fremont— thank you for helping make this progress possible!

The City is committed to supporting safe, fair, and lawful business practices for all mobile vendors operating in Fremont, including food trucks, ice cream trucks, and sidewalk vendors. Recent changes in state law—aimed at supporting entrepreneurship and reducing excessive penalties—have led to an increase in unpermitted mobile vendors throughout the region, including Fremont. This rise has created challenges in the community, including unsafe food handling practices, fire safety concerns, blocked sidewalks, and improper disposal of cooking oil and grease.
To help address these challenges and support vendors in operating legally and safely in Fremont, the City has launched a new webpage. This resource includes detailed information about mobile vending, including a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs). It explains the rules and responsibilities for mobile vending in Fremont, helps vendors understand and comply with state and local regulations, provides guidance for community members on reporting concerns, and outlines the City’s approach to addressing mobile vending challenges.
Help bring more art to Fremont! The City of Fremont invites professional artists to submit proposals for the next phase of boxART!, a public art program that transforms traffic signal control boxes into beautiful painted works of art. Bay Area and local artists are especially encouraged to apply. This year’s theme, “Creating Exceptional Experiences,” invites artists to share what makes Fremont a meaningful place to live, work, and play. Designs may draw inspiration from the people, places, and everyday experiences that bring our community together. The call is open through November 15, 2026.
