On April 20, the City of Fremont participated in the Accelerating the Transition Conference, the opening event of SF Climate Week 2026. Mayor Raj Salwan participated in the Climate Mayors panel alongside regional leaders to discuss the future of clean energy, resilience, and affordability.
During the panel, Mayor Salwan discussed the following recent milestones for Fremont:
- The expansion of solar‑plus‑battery microgrids at community facilities, strengthening the City’s ability to maintain essential services during power outages
- Fremont’s continued leadership in electric transportation, having doubled its City electric vehicle fleet and charging capacity since 2023 while remaining one of the first cities in the nation to deploy Tesla patrol vehicles
- Fremont’s transition to 100% renewable energy, allowing homes and businesses to run on clean power while maintaining competitive pricing and customer choice
Additionally noted was the City’s commitment to sustainable growth and development, focusing on infill development that makes the smartest use of existing land and new affordable housing that includes sustainable features. The Mayor also discussed the vision for Fremont’s emerging Downtown—an area built from the ground up that brings homes, businesses, and transit together to reduce car dependence and create a vibrant gathering space for the community.
It was a proud moment for Fremont! Seeing our city acknowledged as a climate leader is something our community can applaud together!
Fremont’s 2026 Earth Day Fair was a fantastic celebration of our planet and community! Held on April 18 at the Downtown Event Center, Fremont Mayor Raj Salwan kicked off the festivities, welcoming hundreds of community members to honor Earth Day.

Attendees were able to connect with local environmental programs, learn practical strategies for sustainable living, and take advantage of convenient on-site services, including paper shredding and a medication drop-off station.
The City extends its sincere thanks to all the attendees, exhibitors, performers, volunteers, and staff who made this event possible! A special thanks to our major partners—Washington Health and LEAF for their continued support.
