Join us tonight for the Swearing-In Ceremony for Police Chief Floyd Mitchell, a dedicated law enforcement leader with over three decades of service in public safety and community engagement. Chief Mitchell has held key roles in several departments across the nation, building a reputation for integrity, innovation, and community partnerships.
The ceremony will be held tonight, Thursday, April 16, from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm at the Fremont Downtown Event Center, 3500 Capitol Ave., and will feature remarks from City leaders and the official oath of office.
The City of Fremont invites the community to celebrate a major milestone with the groundbreaking of the new Central Park Community Center this Friday.
The ceremony will take place on Friday, April 17, 2026 at 12:00 pm at the Central Park Teen Center (39700 Paseo Padre Parkway). The program will feature brief remarks from City leaders and a ceremonial groundbreaking to mark the start of construction.
This new approximately 20,000 square-foot facility will bring flexible space for fitness, arts, enrichment programs, and community gatherings, supporting residents of all ages. The outdoor area will include a large patio, a ceremonial lawn and terrace off the Event Hall, with improvements to parking, access, pathways and landscaping to support large events and celebrations.
The project reflects community priorities identified in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan and represents a continued investment in high-quality spaces for the Fremont community.

Recap from Charter Advisory Committee Meeting #4 held on Monday, April 13, 2026
The City of Fremont’s (City) Charter Advisory Committee (CAC) held its fourth meeting on Monday, April 13, 2026, at 5:00 pm, lasting approximately three hours. All seven committee members were present. The CAC resumed its discussion from the April 6, 2026, meeting on the form of government, and the City staff provided a presentation on (1) the overview of Fremont City Council and Mayor compensation structure, (2) charter city comparison data, and (3) scenarios, cost projections, and potential staffing expenses. The CAC also received public comments from attendees during the meeting.
During the meeting, the CAC discussed items in the work plan, including the form of government/government structure, office support, and compensation.
The CAC will resume deliberations at its April 20, 2026, meeting to discuss the remaining items for consideration in the charter work plan. As a general reminder, the charter work plan adopted by the City Council at its March 3, 2026, meeting includes the following topics:
- Government structure: Form of government, council authority, meeting structure, and council voting.
- Executive roles: Executive authority and appointment/hiring authority.
- Council compensation and office support: Council salary, staffing options, and budget consideration.
- Term limits: Council term limits and mayor term limits.
The next CAC meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026, at 5:00 p.m. Community members are encouraged to watch CAC meetings online or attend in person. See information on CAC and its meetings.

The Charter Advisory Committee will meet every Monday from March 23, 2026, through April 27, 2026, at 5:00 pm in the City Council Chambers, located at 3300 Capitol Avenue, Building A. The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, April 20, 2026.

Join a Creative Drawing workshop at 11:30 am and a Digital Animation workshop at 1:30 pm. There will also be a Makerspace for families featuring local makers such as Janine Pitta Art, Cal Color Academy, Imaginook, Music for Minors II, and Piecemakers’ Quilting.

Fremont Street Eats returns to Downtown Fremont on Friday, May 1 at 5:00 pm, launching a weekly food truck series running through October. Opening Night features the First Bite Ceremony, including a welcome from City leaders, a kickoff countdown, live entertainment, and a free raffle.
Hosted every Friday, the event brings a rotating lineup of food trucks, new drink selections, local vendors, and community fun. Fremont Street Eats is produced by the Fremont Chamber of Commerce in partnership with Food Truck Mafia and the City of Fremont.

The Teen Center parking lot at Central Park will be closed to support construction of the new Central Park Community Center (CPCC). The closure is expected to remain in place through the duration of construction with an anticipated opening 2028.
This project marks a major investment in Fremont’s community spaces. The new community center will provide flexible space for fitness, arts, enrichment programs, and community gatherings, serving residents of all ages.
Visitors are encouraged to plan ahead and use alternative parking areas within Central Park. Please allow extra time when visiting the area.

Ava Community Energy (Ava), Fremont's electricity provider, has launched SmartHome Battery, a new residential program designed to make solar + battery storage installation easier and more affordable, improve local grid reliability, and support cleaner energy throughout the region.
Whether customers are installing a new solar + battery system, adding a battery to an existing solar setup, or already own a solar + battery system, SmartHome Battery offers installation incentives and participation payments to help customers get the most value from their investment.
Participating customers can receive 1) installation incentives for new or existing batteries and 2) monthly participation payments for allowing a portion of their battery storage to support the grid during high demand periods.
All Ava customers who install or already own a qualifying home solar + battery system may be eligible. Incentive levels vary based on income eligibility and participation choices. Enrollment is first come, first‑served and will remain open until program funds are fully allocated.
