Fremont Oak Gardens, an affordable housing property located at 2681 Driscoll Road in Fremont, has opened its waitlist for one-bedroom rental units. The waitlist will be open until November 12, at 5:00 pm. The units are reserved for households that include at least one senior adult, defined as age 55 or older, who is deaf or hard-of-hearing.
This weekend when you 'fall back,' remember to 'Change Your Clocks, Change Your Batteries.' Be sure to check and change your smoke alarm and carbon monoxide batteries to ensure they are working properly. And for any smoke detectors and batteries you need to swap out, please remember to drop them off for free at the local Household Hazardous Waste facility, located at 41149 Boyce Rd. in Fremont.
We also want to remind the community that the Fremont Fire Department has a team of volunteers who will install free, standard smoke alarms in the homes of older adults and low income and physically challenged individuals. Many of the smoke detectors are donated by local businesses and organizations. In partnership with American Red Cross, we’re helping ensure that every Fremont resident is protected in case of fire – including those who are deaf or hard of hearing. Specialized hearing-impaired smoke alarm devices are available to qualifying residents at no cost. To learn more or request assistance, please visit our website and navigate to the “Additional Resources” section at the bottom of the webpage.

On Friday, October 24, we celebrated the launch of the City’s new free public Wi-Fi network, a major step toward closing the digital divide and expanding high-speed internet access citywide. With connection speeds up to 1 gigabit, AccessFremont strengthens digital equity and community connectivity for all. When fully deployed, the network will include 125 access points across six business districts: Centerville, Irvington, Mission San Jose (near Ohlone College), Niles, Warm Springs, and Downtown.
This initiative supports students, families, job seekers, and residents who depend on reliable internet to learn, work, and thrive. It also marks a key milestone in Fremont’s Citywide Fiber Optic Master Plan, adopted in July 2022, which outlines broadband and Wi-Fi projects to enhance connectivity across the city. Just like connecting to Wi-Fi at your favorite café, residents, businesses, and visitors will enjoy a simple, seamless connection wherever AccessFremont is available.
But AccessFremont is about more than connectivity, it’s about creating a vibrant, welcoming Fremont. Free public Wi-Fi makes our districts more inclusive and engaging, inviting people to stay longer, work remotely, connect with neighbors, and explore local shops and restaurants.
We extend our sincere thanks to State Senator Dr. Aisha Wahab and Congressman Ro Khanna for their partnership and support in securing $3 million in combined state and federal funding that helped make this vision a reality.
AccessFremont represents more than just Wi-Fi, it’s a commitment to a connected, inclusive future where everyone in Fremont has the tools to succeed.
Due to the ongoing federal government shutdown, CalFresh (SNAP) benefits may be delayed in November. If you have a balance on your EBT card after October 31, 2025, you can still use those funds, but no new benefits will be added until the government reopens.
The City’s Fremont Family Resource Center (FFRC) provides a variety of supportive services, including information on food resources for the community.
This is a reminder that beginning Monday, November 3, Isherwood Park, located at Isherwood Way and Quarry Lakes Drive, will be temporarily closed to all visitors for park improvements and maintenance. The work is expected to take place throughout the winter, after a full park closure on Friday, November 14. Relocation support is being offered to those currently residing in the park.
