All fireworks are banned in the City of Fremont, including those labeled as “safe and sane.” This ban, in place since 1986, has helped reduce injuries, wildland fires, and structure fires caused by fireworks.
Fremont Police and Fremont Fire will be actively patrolling during peak times to monitor fireworks use and reduce fire risk, especially along the hillsides. Possession or use of illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor in California, punishable by fines ranging from $1,000 to $50,000 or by imprisonment in a state prison or county jail. In some cases, it may be charged as a felony. Parents can also be held liable for damages or injuries caused by their children.
Due to an anticipated high call volume during the holiday, please only dial 911 for a true or potential emergency. To report a non-emergency, please call (510) 790-6800, option 3.
From 4:00 pm on July 4 through 2:00 am on July 5, community members are encouraged to report illegal firework activities via the Fremont App. Reports with specific details such as address, description, and potential safety hazards will receive higher priority. For details on how to download the app and for more info please visit: fremontpolice.gov/fireworks

Attention, Fremont residents! This August, your electricity service will switch to 100% renewable energy from clean sources like wind and solar.
Renewable 100:
The City and Ava Community Energy (Ava), Fremont’s electricity provider, will designate Ava’s Renewable 100 plan as the default electricity service plan for residents. This plan is priced slightly above the other available service plans, costing about $3–$6 more per month than Ava’s Bright Choice plan (Fremont’s default plan since 2018) and $1–$4 more per month than PG&E.
The transition to Renewable 100 will occur this August for residential customers and in August 2026 for commercial customers. CARE, FERA, Medical Baseline, and customers who have opted out of Ava service to PG&E will not be transitioned.
Even with Fremont’s transition to Renewable 100, you'll still have the same plan options you have now, but you’ll need to take action if you don't want your plan to change. To remain on Fremont’s current default service plan, Bright Choice (5% below PG&E rates), or opt out of Ava service and select PG&E, visit AvaEnergy.org/Fremont by Wednesday, July 23. After this date, you can still change your plan at any time. Please note that it takes one to two billing cycles for a change to take effect, so you will see charges for the Renewable 100 plan on your bill until your change is active.
The transition to Renewable 100 is outlined in Fremont’s Climate Action Plan, as it will provide cleaner energy to residents and businesses and achieve the high-priority goal of reducing community-wide greenhouse gas emissions.
Ava Community Energy:
Ava Community Energy (Ava) is a not-for-profit public agency that provides electricity generation service for Alameda County and parts of San Joaquin County. While PG&E still handles the delivery of electricity to your home—including maintaining the electric grid, handling billing, and resolving outages—Ava is responsible for sourcing and supplying the electricity that PG&E delivers.
Notices from Ava and the City are currently being mailed to Fremont residents to make sure our community is informed about the transition to Renewable 100. Be on the lookout for these notifications in your mailbox.
For more information, visit AvaEnergy.org/Fremont or contact Ava’s customer support team at 833-699-3223 (weekdays 9:00 am to 5:00 pm) or customer-support@AvaEnergy.org.

A new mixed-use development with 290 affordable housing units and approximately 5,000 square feet of commercial space is planned for Centerville! The Fremont Planning Commission recently approved the construction of Centerville Plaza Apartments, a new development by USA Properties Fund to be located at 37358 Fremont Boulevard. This is a 4.5-acre vacant site bounded by Fremont Boulevard, Peralta Boulevard, Parish Avenue, and Jason Way. Located within an existing town center, the development: 1) aligns with the City's General Plan by emphasizing transit-oriented development and 2) furthers the City's Housing Element goals for creating affordable housing. It will offer convenient access to the Centerville Train Station, AC Transit stops, and walkable commercial areas.
In March 2024, the Fremont City Council awarded $12.85 million to USA Properties Fund for the construction of this new affordable housing development. The 290 total units of affordable rental housing will be designated for low-income households earning 30% to 80% of the area median income (AMI). To receive information when the new affordable housing units become available, sign up for the City’s Affordable Housing Interest List.
The construction of Centerville Plaza Apartments will be divided into two phases:
-
Phase 1 – Building 1: A five-story mixed-use building with 140 units and approximately 1,600 square feet of commercial space along Fremont Boulevard at the southern end of the property.
-
Phase 2 – Buildings 2 and 3: A five-story mixed-use building along Fremont Boulevard with 133 units and approximately 3,500 square feet of commercial space (Building 2) and a three-story residential building with 17 units on Peralta Boulevard (Building 3).
Street improvements along Fremont Boulevard will include a 14-foot-wide sidewalk and a 5-foot-wide bike lane.
Phase 1 funding—which includes City financing—is secured, and completion is anticipated in 2028. Phase 2 funding is still being finalized, and the construction timeline remains to be determined.

On Sunday, June 8, 2025, the City of Fremont was notified that the Fremont 4th of July nonprofit organization was regrettably cancelling this year’s parade.
For more than two decades the annual parade has been organized by a volunteer nonprofit organization, with financial sponsorship support from the City of Fremont, to help offset the cost of road closures and public safety services. The parade organizers hope to bring back the parade in 2026, and issued the following statement:
“Dear Community Members and Supporters,
We regret to inform you that the Fremont 4th of July Parade will not take place this year. Due to some challenges, and moreover, a team member facing a serious health issue, we have made the difficult decision to postpone this year's parade.
While we won't be celebrating with a parade on Paseo Padre Parkway in 2025, our commitment to the community remains strong. We are already planning for a spectacular return in 2026, when we will commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence-a milestone worth celebrating in grand style.
Thank you for your understanding, support, and patience during this time. We will count on strong community partnership and look forward to coming back bigger and better than ever in 2026!
For more information, to contact us, or to make donations, please visit our website: https://fremont4th.org/
With gratitude- Board of Directors, The Fremont 4th of July Parade Nonprofit”
The City encourages community members interested in getting involved with this event to reach out to the Fremont 4th of July Organization to learn more about volunteer opportunities.
