Compost Giveaway on April 6

Our popular Compost Giveaway event returns this Sunday, April 6! Fremont households can pick up two free bags of compost by presenting their Republic Services garbage bill. This quality compost comes from our residents’ yard trimmings and food scraps and is carefully processed to be a valuable soil amendment for landscaping.

Event Details:

Sunday, April 6
8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (or while supplies last)
Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station at 41149 Boyce Rd., Fremont

Instructions:

1. Empty your trunk ahead of time.
2. Leave your pets at home.
3. Drive through and pay attention to signs and instructions. Please stay in your car at all times.
4. Staff will open your trunk before you get to the compost line.
5. Present your garbage bill.
6. Staff will load your compost bags into your trunk while you stay in your car.

Neighbors who cannot attend can give you their bill to collect their bags for them.

This event is presented by the Cities of Fremont and Newark, Republic Services, and the Fremont Recycling and Transfer Station.

April 8 City Council Meeting Cancelled

The regularly scheduled Fremont City Council meeting on April 8 has been cancelled. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 7:00 pm.

Expanding In-Person Hours for Development Services Center/Permit Center

The City is pleased to announce expanded in-person service hours for the Development Services/Permit Center, located at 39550 Liberty Street in Fremont.

Starting Monday, April 21, 2025, the Center will be open for weekday in-person services at the following times:

• Monday through Thursday: 8:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. (closed from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m.)
• Friday: 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

As always, online permitting services are available 24/7, and customers can also contact permitting staff by phone or email on weekdays between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The Development Services Center/Permit Center serves as the City’s one-stop shop for helping community members obtain permits for their construction projects. Staff members from Planning, Building and Safety, Environmental Services, Engineering, and Revenue are available to assist visitors and answer questions.

Corrected Minimum Wage Increase in City of Fremont

The City is informing the community of a correction to the previously announced minimum wage increase for the City of Fremont. Due to a calculation error, the minimum wage rate effective July 1, 2025, was incorrectly stated as increasing from $17.30 to $17.80. The correct increase should be from $17.30 to $17.75.

We sincerely apologize for this error and any confusion it may have caused. The City is taking immediate steps to update the minimum wage webpage, all wage bulletins, and will notify Fremont residents and business owners through our media channels to ensure the correct information is communicated.
