In Fremont, small businesses are essential to our cultural identity, helping to cultivate a sense of belonging and community. By choosing to shop at these local establishments, you keep your money within the community, supporting a more sustainable and circular economy.

Happy Thanksgiving from the City of Fremont! A reminder that City offices will be closed Thursday, November 28 and Friday, November 29 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. We hope you have a wonderful holiday season.
Just a friendly reminder that this week, Republic Services will collect garbage, recycling, and compost one day later than usual for Thursday and Friday customers. Therefore, if your collection day is Thursday, November 28, it will be on Friday, November 29. If your collection day is Friday, November 29, it will be on Saturday, November 30. Thanks for understanding!
This is a reminder that the City’s online permitting portal, Citizen Access, will be taken offline for the Thanksgiving holiday closure. Citizen Access will not be available starting today at 5:00 pm through Monday, December 2 at 8:00 am. Online requests for permits and building inspections will not be available during this time. This includes building, planning, and engineering permits. The City’s Inspection Scheduling Phone Line will still be available during the closure to request a building inspection for the following week. Anyone who needs to request an inspection can call 510-494-4885

Feast smart, use your cart! As you celebrate this holiday season, please remember to compost. When you have food scraps and expired leftovers, toss them into your green compost cart. This helps create compost, a valuable resource that farmers, landscapers, and gardeners can use to grow healthy food and reduce greenhouse gases. For a reminder of what’s acceptable for your green cart, check out our Composting Guide.
To start composting right from your kitchen, simply gather your food scraps and soiled paper items into a compost pail and then toss them into your green cart. Free countertop compost pails are available from Republic Services by completing an online form.
If you're hosting a holiday gathering, don't forget to have composting and recycling bins easily accessible for your guests.
Thanks for doing your part to reduce food waste and create a climate ready Fremont!
