City Council Approves Phase 1 Project for New Community Center at Central Park
On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the Fremont City Council approved Phase 1 of the new Community Center project at Central Park. The need for a new multi-use community center was identified as a high priority in the Parks and Recreation Master Plan, which was adopted by the Fremont City Council in March 2022.
During the earlier part of this year, the City conducted outreach with the community to help determine desired programs, activity spaces and amenities, and the preferred architectural style. The City received input from over 2,600 participants both online and in-person at meetings and community events.
The Phase 1 project consists of a new 12,000 square foot community center building with rooms for fitness, dance, arts, crafts, and community meetings, an expanded parking lot, as well as an “Outdoor Living Room” to support outdoor social and relaxation spaces. The Phase 1 project cost is $33 million and is funded by City, State, and federal sources. Future phases of the project are proposed to include an Event Hall, Gymnasium, and an Outdoor Amphitheatre. Construction of the Phase 1 Community Center project is proposed to start in Summer 2025 and be complete in 2027.

During this past 4th of July, Fremont Police officers responded to about 140 complaints regarding illegal fireworks, including 69 calls for services. We ultimately confiscated 450+ counts of fireworks and issued 6 citations. Police, Fire, and City staff proactively made contact at numerous locations throughout the city and issued verbal warnings. Our priority was to educate and prevent injuries. Citations were issued for on-view violations when officers witnessed the ignition of fireworks. We thank our community for keeping each other safe during this year’s celebration.
Join us this Saturday, July 13 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Nature Learning Center's Open House for a day of nature discovery!
