Here are some additional handy resources:
As temperatures soar this summer, pet owners are reminded to take extra precautions to ensure the well-being of their furry companions. Here are some vital tips to keep pets safe and comfortable during the heat:
- Schedule outdoor activities during the cooler parts of the day, such as early morning or late evening. Avoid strenuous exercise during peak heat hours to prevent heat exhaustion.
- Always ensure your pet can access plenty of fresh, cool water. When out for walks, carry a portable water bowl to keep them hydrated.
- Provide ample shady spots for your pets. Ensure their living spaces are well-ventilated to maintain airflow and prevent overheating.
- Protect your pet's paws from hot pavements and asphalt which can cause burns. Walk dogs on grassy areas whenever possible.
- Never leave your pet unattended in a parked car, even for a short period. Temperatures inside a vehicle can rise rapidly and become life-threatening. Remember, officers will take necessary action, including breaking car windows to rescue animals in distress.
- Utilize cooling mats, vests, or bandanas to help lower your pet's body temperature. Offer frozen treats or ice cubes for them to lick and enjoy.
Be aware of the signs of heat stroke in pets, which include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, and collapse. If you suspect heat stroke, move your pet to a cool area, offer water, and contact your veterinarian immediately.

It’s no secret that sustainability and community resilience have been City priorities, and now others are taking note of our ongoing efforts. Impakter, an eco-news publication, recently covered Fremont’s sustainability journey, specifically highlighting our multifaceted approach to affordable and clean energy. The article highlights our accelerated transition to renewable energy, our partnerships with Ava Community Energy and Habitat for Humanity East Bay/Silicon Valley, our growing fleet of zero-emission Police vehicles, and more. Read the full article to see how Fremont is inspiring cities around the nation to become more sustainable.
As the City continues its sustainability efforts, we encourage our community to view our Climate Action Dashboard for a live look at how we are tracking data related to the goals in our updated Climate Action Plan. Visit the dashboard to see our progress on reducing greenhouse gas emissions and more.

On July 1, 2024, the City of Fremont’s minimum wage increased to $17.30 per hour. Employers are required to pay at least the minimum wage for all hours worked to hourly employees who perform work within the geographic boundaries of the City of Fremont. Employers are also required to post the official City of Fremont Wage Bulletin in the top five languages spoken in the city in a conspicuous place at each work site. The Official Bulletins, including translated versions, are available for download on the City’s Minimum Wage webpage. To avoid a reduction in the valuable services they provide to the community, the minimum wage ordinance exempts employees of non-profit corporations. For questions, please contact us by email.
