Fremont Police to Partner with Code Joshua for Autism Awareness
Fremont Police is proud to announce our partnership with the non-profit organization, Joshua’s Gift, and the shared vision of promoting acceptance, inclusion, and respect with our neurodiverse community. Together, we will be furthering Code Joshua: a two-prong mission of enhancing officer autism awareness training and the development of a voluntary registry to assist families with autistic loved ones. This registry aims to further community safety by providing law enforcement with more information, especially in times of crisis. As we work on this initiative, we will be reaching out to the community and stakeholders for input and discourse. Starting April 2, which is recognized as International Autism Awareness Day, through the rest of April, Fremont Police will proudly show off their new patrol car decal as autism community partners. Visit our website for the Code Joshua video and for more information.
Starting July 1, 2024, the City of Fremont’s minimum wage will increase to $17.30 per hour. Employers are required to pay at least the minimum wage for all hours worked to hourly employees who perform work within the geographic boundaries of the City of Fremont. Employers are also required to post the official City of Fremont Wage Bulletin in the top five languages spoken in the city in a conspicuous place at each work site. The Official Bulletins, including translated versions, are available for download on the City’s Minimum Wage webpage. To avoid a reduction in the valuable services they provide to the community, the minimum wage ordinance exempts employees of non-profit corporations. Questions can be directed to minwage@fremont.gov.
On March 15, the City of Fremont, alongside the California Energy Commission and the Governor’s Office of Business Development, presented the 2024 California Battery Summit at the Fremont Downtown Event Center with over 200 attendees!
Highlighting the latest developments in California’s robust battery technology industry and its role in the clean energy transition, the Battery Summit further amplified the City and State’s strengths in supporting battery manufacturing. Leading up to the event, Fremont showcased one of its own leading battery companies, EnerVenue, with an industry tour, with Mayor Lily Mei in attendance.
At next week’s City Council meeting on April 2, 2024, which begins at 7:00 pm, the meeting agenda will include the following items and more:
- Council Referral Regarding Animal Shelter Services
- Update to Parking Regulations
- Large Vehicle Parking Enforcement Policy Consideration
Visit our Agenda Center to view the meeting agenda and how to attend.
The City is implementing State laws that are in effect for multi-unit buildings with exterior elevated elements that are located more than six feet above the adjacent grade, such as balconies, walkways, decks, landings, railings, and stairways. The laws require multifamily property owners and condominium homeowners associations (HOAs) to hire a licensed professional for necessary inspections to determine whether exterior elevated elements are in safe and functional condition. The deadline to complete the first safety inspection is January 1, 2025.
Multifamily apartment and condominium buildings are subject to the laws if they have ALL three of these characteristics:
- Building has three or more units, AND
- Building has wood-framed exterior elevated elements that are located more than six feet above the adjacent grade—such as balconies, walkways, decks, landings, railings, or stairways, AND
- Building is classified as an apartment or condominium building.
If any of the three characteristics above do not apply to the building, then the building is exempt from the laws. The property owner or HOA must still take action by filling out and submitting the City's Exemption Declaration Form.

Caltrans is rehabilitating Interstate 880 from Milpitas to Fremont for a smoother ride for motorists, repairing potholes and replacing deteriorated roadway pavement and enhancing safety and mobility on the freeway starting in early April 2024.
The work will be performed mainly at night to minimize the impact to motorists on this heavily traveled corridor. One or more lanes will be closed overnight to accommodate the work. Both northbound and southbound I-880 will be repaved, with work beginning on Northbound I-880 the week of April 1.
The work will stretch approximately 12 miles (each direction) from Dixon Landing Road in Milpitas at the Alameda County/Santa Clara County line to Alvarado Boulevard in Fremont. Crews will also repave offramps and onramps.
Signage will be provided to alert motorists to the lane closures and California Highway Patrol will be onsite. The project is scheduled to complete in 2026.
Caltrans thanks the traveling public for your patience as we work to improve the highways, bridges, and tunnels of the Bay Area.
On March 12, the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) launched a new, free tool called Direct File, which allows eligible taxpayers to securely file their taxes online directly with the IRS. You can use Direct File on your smartphone, laptop, tablet, or desktop computer to file your taxes in English or Spanish in as few as 30 minutes.
