FPD Awarded Nearly $2.5 Million to Combat Organized Retail Theft
In July, Fremont Police Department applied for the Organized Retail Theft (ORT) Prevention Grant to support ongoing efforts to respond to and mitigate the impact of criminal activity in our community. On September 14, 2023, we received official notice and confirmation that the Board of State and Community Corrections (BSCC) approved funding for our grant application. The City of Fremont Police Department was awarded $2,453,958. The ORT Grant funds will support direct line deterrence, detection and response to organized retail theft as well as other crimes impacting our community. Our Police Department remains motivated to implement an operational Real-Time Information Center. Their strong foundation includes an extensive camera network, a real-time data integration platform, an upstart Drone as First Responder (DFR) Program, and use of specialized detectives. These funds will enable FPD to enhance public safety with the purchase of technology and additional full-time crime analyst positions. The Fremont City Council is expected to accept the funding at a future Council meeting.
