This past June, the City began issuing Instant Solar Permits using SolarAPP+, an online portal for permitting new residential rooftop solar and storage systems. This permit type was implemented as a result of a prize competition sponsored by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) to further accelerate the adoption of the SolarAPP+ portal. Through the competition, local governments were eligible to win a $15,000 cash prize for successful adoption.
The City is excited to share that Fremont has been selected by NREL as a recipient of the SolarAPP+ prize! Other winners include Oro Valley, Arizona; Tiffin, Iowa; and the City and County of Denver, Colorado. The City thanks NREL for their support and recognition. The City appreciates how SolarAPP+ is making it easier for Fremont residents to install rooftop solar and storage systems; promoting clean, renewable energy for Fremont; and helping the City achieve its climate action goals.
Instant Solar Permits are available for contractors registered with SolarAPP+ and accommodate roof-mounted solar photovoltaic panel installations with or without an energy storage system. For more information and instructions on how to apply, visit the City’s Instant Solar Permit webpage.

National Night Out is a Success!
The City of Fremont celebrated the 40th annual National Night Out this past Tuesday, August 1. Our staff visited more than 90 parties this year, making it a very successful night!
Special thanks to those who hosted a block party, Fremont Police Department, Fremont Fire Department, and all our councilmembers and City staff who volunteered. We had a fun time connecting with our community and look forward to next year’s event!
The City's public comment period for Fremont's draft Climate Action Plan is now closed. Thank you to everyone who visited the topic on MyFremont to provide feedback! The City appreciates everyone's interest in the plan and creating a climate ready Fremont. The feedback received will be reviewed and considered as City staff prepares the final plan to bring to the Fremont City Council for adoption later this year.
Are you planning a home energy efficiency upgrade? Do you have your eye on that hot, new electric vehicle? It can be exhausting and confusing to wade through all the potential incentives out there. Enter the EBCE Incentive Finder! Fremont’s electricity provider, East Bay Community Energy (EBCE), has just launched this first-of-its-kind tool that pulls incentives from federal, state, and local sources for items like heat pumps, appliances, windows, doors, solar panels, battery storage systems, and electric vehicles. Search parameters include zip code, renter/homeowner, household income, tax filing status, and household size. These parameters allow the tool to provide customized results that include income-qualifying incentives and/or geographically-specific incentives, as well as incentives that are specific to whether the user owns or rents their home. EBCE will update the tool as new incentives are launched, revised, or terminated. Check it today to go green at home and help Fremont become a climate ready community!
With back to school around the corner, don’t miss out on Bike East Bay’s upcoming Family Cycling Workshop for kids who are ready to take to the paths and roadways with their parents. To register or to see other activities such as the Adult Learn-to-Ride Class, check out their website.
