Cooling Centers to Open this Weekend
High temperatures are forecasted in Fremont to be 91 degrees this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Cooling Centers will open at the Fremont Main Library, 2400 Stevenson Blvd., on both Saturday and Sunday (July 15-16), from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm. View our website for heat safety tips and heat-related illness symptoms/what to do. We’d also like to encourage everyone to check in on neighbors, especially home-bound elderly and vulnerable populations in Fremont.
Also, air quality is forecasted to reach Moderate levels (based on ozone concentration) over the weekend. The U. S. EPA recommends that individuals who are unusually sensitive to ozone consider reducing physical activity levels or reduce the extent of outdoor activity to minimize exposure. A Spare the Air Alert has been extended through tomorrow, Saturday, July 15, for the San Francisco Bay Area.

The City is kicking off its Active Transportation Plan (ATP), which focuses on improving access, safety, and comfort for active modes of transportation through planning for infrastructure and supportive programs. Get involved and share your feedback!
Active transportation refers to “human-powered” or small battery-assisted modes of travel, including walking, biking, scooting, or using mobility devices. We want to hear from you, the Fremont community, as we develop this plan. The ATP is currently in the first phase of public outreach, which focuses on learning how the Fremont community is experiencing walking and biking in the city. The Phase 1 outreach will span over the course of this summer, consisting of an online survey and in-person project outreach at various special events and farmers markets throughout the city. For a list of upcoming special events that the project team will be attending, as well as completing the online survey, please visit the City’s MyFremont page. Your input will help ensure future City investments will meet the needs of the community for walking, biking, and scootering, ultimately contributing to Fremont being a happy city!

Parks and Recreation Month
Since 1985, people in the United States have celebrated Parks and Recreation Month in July to promote building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities through the power of parks and recreation and to recognize the more than 160,000 full-time park and recreation professionals — along with hundreds of thousands of part-time and seasonal workers and volunteers — that maintain our country’s local, state, and community parks. This year's theme, “Where Community Grows”, celebrates the vital role park and recreation professionals and volunteers play in bringing people together, providing essential services and fostering the growth of our communities. At the July 11 City Council meeting, the Council proclaimed July 2023 as Parks and Recreation Month in Fremont and encourages all residents to enjoy and participate in parks and recreation opportunities during the month of July and all year long.
Recreation volunteers and former Recreation Commissioner attend July 11 City Council Meeting and accept the proclamation read by Mayor Mei.

National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month
July is National Roadside Traffic Safety Awareness Month and the City of Fremont wants to share some easy and vital traffic safety tips as many families prepare for summer travels. With higher traffic volumes over vacation months, there is a higher probability of crashes. It is important to:
- Be prepared and plan ahead. Stock your car with safety gear such as a flashlight, jumper cables, or flares in order to mark your location in the event of an emergency.
- Put your phone and other distractions away and follow the posted speed limit when driving. Familiarize yourself with the route and allow plenty of time to get to your destinations safely.
- In the event of an emergency, find a safe location to examine your car and remember to turn on your hazard lights so that other drivers can see there is a problem ahead.
