Storm Updates

Rain and Snow in Fremont

The rain is back with cold overnight low temperatures into next week. Snow capped hills can be seen from various locations throughout the city. City staff is continuing to closely monitor the storms as they unfold—adjusting staffing levels, emergency response, and public messaging accordingly. The City Manager’s Office in coordination with the Fremont Police Department and Fremont Fire Department Public Information Officers will continue to provide our community with general information and safety messages throughout the winter storm season.

Update on Disaster Recovery Centers

Alameda County, in partnership with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and California Office of Emergency Services (CalOES) have announced that the Disaster Recovery Center within the City of Oakland will remain open until March 16, 2023. New hours are Monday through Saturday, from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. The new schedule begins Saturday, February 25, 2023. The site will be closed Sunday, February 26, 2023. The Dublin Disaster Recovery Center will close as scheduled on Friday, February 24, 2023.

Homeowners, renters, and business owners whose properties were damaged during the recent winter storms are encouraged to apply for assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center. Those impacted are encouraged to file insurance claims for damages before applying for FEMA assistance at the Disaster Recovery Center. Translation services are available.

Assistance for Storm-Related Damage

Residents who suffered uninsured or underinsured storm-related damage are now eligible to apply for assistance under FEMA’s Individual Assistance program.  Losses not covered by insurance or FEMA funding may be eligible under the U. S. Small Business Administration’s (SBA) low interest disaster loan program.  Businesses which suffered significant storm-related damage or economic injury may apply for assistance under the U.S. SBA’s low interest disaster loan program.

Protecting Your Pets during Inclement Weather

When temperatures at night approach freezing, please bring your pets indoors or provide them with warm/dry shelter. If your pet has a sweater, now is the time to put it on them. Community cats also look for a warm place to be. As you approach your car in the morning, make noise and tap your car hood to get the cats to leave. Thank you for thinking about your pets in this inclement weather!

COVID-19 State of Emergency to Expire on February 28, 2023

California’s COVID-19 emergency proclamation will officially end on February 28, 2023. What does this mean for Fremont? The City's state of emergency is tied to Alameda County. The Alameda County Health Order will be discussed at the February 28 Alameda County Board of Supervisors meeting. We intend to share more information at that time. 

City of Fremont’s Safe Parking Host Site Program

Tri-City residents living in their vehicles and interested in learning more about the City of Fremont’s Safe Parking Host Site program may contact 510-574-2222 or send us an email for more information. Five church sites have opened their lots overnight for this safe, transitional space for individuals living in their vehicle. Meals and bathrooms are provided in these welcoming locations. The program is open to individuals or couples over 18 living in their vehicles. No RVs are permitted at this time.

Upcoming March 1 Recreation Commission Meeting

Join the City of Fremont at the Recreation Commission meeting on Wednesday, March 1, 2023 at 7:00 pm to discuss the Urban Forest Management Plan. The plan creates a foundation for how the City can proactively and effectively build upon managing its urban forest in partnership with the community. The Recreation Commission will be considering recommendation of the Plan for adoption to the City Council.

Skatepark Closure at Central Park

The Central Park Skatepark will be closed beginning Monday, March 6, 2023, through the end of April 2023 to undergo maintenance and infrastructure repair. We apologize for the inconvenience and thank you for your support and patience during the closure.

CleanStart Adds New Site

The CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit, which provides much needed shower and laundry services to our homeless neighbors, is back in service this week. Its first stop was the Fremont Main Library, a new location for this program. CleanStart will be at the Fremont Main Library, located at at 2400 Stevenson Blvd., with laundry and showers every Thursday from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm. RESCHEDULED: Closure of Northbound I-680 in Sunol/Pleasanton will now take place March 3-6

The Caltrans closure of northbound Interstate 680 between Sunol Boulevard and Bernal Avenue planned for this weekend, February 24-27, has been RESCHEDULED due to rain. The closure is now planned to take place starting at 10:00 pm Friday, March 3 and reopening at 5:00 am Monday, March 6 (three nights, two days), weather permitting.

Success of the 16th Annual Crab Feed

On Friday February 17, the Age Well Center (AWC) at Lake Elizabeth held its only fundraiser of the year for Fremont’s two age well center lunch programs. Both components of the Crab Feed, which included a drive-thru event and in-person dinner were well attended. Drive-thru supporters purchased 130 crab dinners and were greeted to sounds of live ukulele players while picking up their generous helping of crab and all the fixings. A complimentary dessert and drink for these meals was sponsored by Cogir. The in-person event served 125 attendees at the Age Well Center and included a festive atmosphere complete with an all-you-can-eat crab dinner. Former mayor Bill Harrison served as master of ceremonies and guests enjoyed live music and raffle prizes. Generous sponsor support, the raffle, and drink sales brought in over $28,000 alone! The final tally is still taking place but the AWC at Lake Elizabeth thanks the entire community for supporting this fun and delicious event!
