For more information, please visit the Winter Wellness site to stay healthy this winter.
Children 6 months and older are eligible for the updated COVID-19 (bivalent) dose of vaccine.
- Moderna bivalent (6 months to 5 years) is authorized as a single booster dose at least two months after the Moderna primary series.
- Pfizer bivalent (6 months to 4 years) is the authorized third dose of the Pfizer primary series.
- This third dose replaces the monovalent third dose. The third dose of the Pfizer primary series is now a bivalent dose and not a bivalent booster.
- Monovalent vaccine is deauthorized as the third dose of the three-dose series.
- Children in this age group ready for their third dose will need to wait until the new Pfizer bivalent vaccine formulation for 6 months to 4 years is available.
- Alameda County-operated Points of Dispensing (PODs) continue to serve children 5+. Children 6 months to 4 years should get their vaccination at their pediatrician’s office.
