 Council Transition and Installation at Dec. 13 Council Meeting
At the December 13, 2022, City Council meeting, new councilmembers were sworn into the City Council following the November 8, 2022, General Municipal Election. The ceremonial oath of office and installation were administered for Fremont’s newly elected and re-elected councilmembers, each elected to a four-year term. The City of Fremont welcomes: Desrie Campbell (District 2, newly elected); Jenny Kassan (District 3, re-elected); and Yang Shao (District 4, re-elected).
With Fremont’s new councilmembers now sworn in, the Fremont City Council includes Mayor Lily Mei, Vice Mayor Teresa Keng (District 1), Councilmember Desrie Campbell (District 2), Councilmember Jenny Kassan (District 3), Councilmember Yang Shao (District 4), Councilmember Raj Salwan (District 5), and Councilmember Teresa Cox (District 6).

Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, outgoing Councilmember Rick Jones was recognized for his eight years of dedicated public service and commitment to the City of Fremont and our community as a councilmember.
We wish him the best of luck in retirement!

 Coming Soon - City Council Meetings and City Commission Meetings Open to Public Beginning in January
In compliance with new State law (AB 2449), all City Council and City Commission meetings will be held in person beginning in January 2023. A virtual option via Zoom will also still be available for City Council meetings and these instructions will be found on Council meeting agendas. City Commission meetings will only be available in person.
Members of the public wishing to participate in City Council meetings in person are encouraged to wear masks and seating capacity will remain limited in Council Chambers to help prevent the spread of COVID 19 and other illnesses impacting our community. The City continues to monitor public health conditions and associated regulations and will take necessary action to comply with any future health orders.

Parks & Recreation is excited to offer fun and interactive camps with full-day and half-day options during the upcoming school breaks. Winter and Spring Break Camps will take place December 27–29, January 3-6, and April 10-14, 2023, and feature themed programs such as arts, cooking, nature, STEM, sports, and more. Camps are a great way for participants to meet new friends, learn something new, and stay engaged during the break. Can you help? The City’s Homeless Care and Response team is collecting items to distribute to our unhoused neighbors through the Clean Start Mobile Hygiene Unit, the Winter Relief Program, and in the field. Two items currently in high demand are tarps and sleeping bags. View the complete list of needed items and instructions on how to donate. The last day to drop off items in 2022 is Thursday, December 22 by 12:00 pm, however, items will also be needed well into next year, 2023. Contact our staff by email if you have any questions.

 10th Annual Chanukah Lighting
Celebrate Chanukah and watch the live carving of a giant Menorah at the 10th Annual Chanukah Lighting on Ice this Sunday, December 18 at the Fremont Downtown Event Plaza, 3500 Capitol Ave. Event begins at 4:30 pm, with menorah lighting at 5:30 pm. Sponsored by Chabad of Fremont Jewish Center, the event will include traditional holiday treats and hot drinks, a children's craft corner, face painting, and the carving of a giant ice menorah!

The Dumbarton Corridor construction project includes the installation of Transit Signal Priority (TSP) equipment, bus queue-jumps, and bus stop improvements and relocations along the corridor in Union City, Fremont, Menlo Park, and Palo Alto to improve bus reliability and reduce travel times. Construction will take place from Winter 2022 though Spring 2023 on weekdays. Construction is expected to begin in December 2022, starting in Union City and Fremont. Anticipated impacts will include intermittent lane and temporary bus stop closures to accommodate bus stop improvements, relocations, and consolidations.

Free COVID-19 Testing Drive-Thru at Central Park
The City of Fremont continues partnering with Bay Area Community Health (BACH) to provide no-cost drive-thru COVID testing. Drive-thru appointments are available on the following dates from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm at the Fremont Central Park Parking Lot, behind Aqua Adventure Waterpark, 40500 Paseo Padre Pkwy.:
- Monday, December 19
- Wednesday, December 21
Masks are required to protect the health and safety of both workers and visitors. Registration is required. Minors under 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

The City of Fremont continues to partner with the Alameda County Public Health Department and community partners like Bay Area Community Health to provide additional COVID-19 testing sites in Fremont.
